D&D (2024) Thrown weapon and duelling fighting style.

Meh... it is only 1 point smaller on average (ex. d8 to d6 is 4.5 to 3.5 average). I am fine with someone 3 feet tall using a smaller version weapon not hitting quite as hard.
Personally, I don’t want players to feel nerfed for a roleplaying choice. They want to be short, they should be able to do that without taking -1 average damage to all their attacks. IMO, of course.
Yeah, those are the standard reasons why something wouldn't scale, but we aren't talking the difference in scale you are with examples of DaVinic's work for instance. My imagination isn't the issue, usually it is my desire for reality LOL.
Sorry, to be clear I didn’t mean your imagination specifically, I mean that in general one’s ability to imagine an explanation for something in a fantasy world is the only thing limiting that fantasy world. And, sure, if the difference in scale negatively impacting the function doesn’t fit within your tolerance for suspension of disbelief, you could always come up with something else, if you wanted to - again, I point to expense rather than function being the limiting factor as an example. But obviously, if you aren’t interested in coming up with a narrative justification that’s also fine. We just have different preferences regarding how much disbelief we’re willing to suspend for the sake of game balance, and vice-versa.

What you are taking about is really more for the concept of Finesse weapons IMO.
Oh, also personally I find the whole concept of finesse weapons silly. All weapons require finesse to use effectively. There should be no such thing as a weapon you don’t need decent dexterity to wield.

shrug I just don't see it as that big a nerf, but I know my opinion is far from universal. ;)

Oh, I know you didn't mean "mine" specifically! And yes, I prefer a much more gritty simulationist fantasy game than most people nowadays...

I have to disagree on this depending on what you mean by "decent"?

Training your muscles to wield a weapon is (IMO) part of the proficiency. Anything beyond that gained by DEX (or STR ;) ) is extra. Having fenced in college but also used arming swords, they are different. Having average STR and DEX is enough to allow you to use them effectively.

So, while I understand your point, I treated it cautiously depending on your definition of "decent". We might be in agreement more or less, or I might think you ask too much.
