When I was younger, at Toys R Us, I saw that there were actually three Voltrons. You had the one made up of the five cats and the other one made up of the multiple vehicles, but there was another one made up of like three robots or something. Did that ever catch on in the carton series or was it just for the toys?

I remember seeing that three-robot Voltron printed on the Voltron toy boxes. But I never saw a three-robot Voltron cartoon.

Speaking of big robots, though, does anyone remember Grandizer or Starvengers? These were based on the Shogun Warriors toys. Or maybe the toys were based on the cartoons, I'm not sure.

And speaking of rather obscure animated shows, how about the Dragon Warrior cartoon, featuring Abel and Daisy and other D&D-ish fantasy characters. I don't believe I saw that one until the late 80's/early 90's, though.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that one. The original Japanese name is Mazinger Z. I don't think there were ever any official DVD or VHS releases. However, rightstuf.com has the direct-to-video mini-series Mazinkaiser.

Mazinger Z was created by Go Nagai. After that series ended, he did a follow up with different characters (not sure what that one was called). Mazinkaiser is, afaik, the 3rd series and used the original Tranzor/Mazinger characters.

The whole Mazinkaiser series is covered on 2 DVDs. Right Stuf (that's with one "F") sells the 2 discs individually (for $26.98 each) or together as part of a "savings bundle" for $21.99. Obviously, if you plan on buying it, the bundle is the way to go. I actually got mine during a sale they had for only $15 or so. :)

Sadly, Tranzor/Mazinger is only active for the first episode or two. After that, it's the super powerful Mazinkaiser. That's one ugly robot. :\

OK, I admit it, I once created an NPC adventure party based on the Thundercats.

Lion-o was a Paladin. Actually he was a squire of a paladin (Jaga), but had been aged to adulthood by a ghost.

Cheetara was a cleric of Fharlanghn.

Pathro was a Fighter, but I wish I had Artificer rules then.

Tygra was a dual classed Ranger/ Illusionist.

WilyKit & Kat were twin Half Elven Rogues with Belts of Wonder. (Like the wand but with no charges)

I wanted to introduce Mumm-Ra (Lich), Jackalman (Flind), Slithe(Slaad) and Vulture-man (Nag-pa from Mystara), but they would have been far to srtrong for the PCs.

You should join Peter Shweighoffer's group. He had his party facing off against practially every 80s cartoon icon out there: Smurfs, Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite, etc... (seemingly the "girly" stuff)

The party's goal: To wipe out all them and culminate with the Smurfs (they were hired by Gargamel to off the Smurfs). Sounded funny....
