Thunder... thunder... thunder... Thundercats! Ho!

Announced this week at San Diego Comic Con by Dynamite Entertainment and Lynnvander Studios is an official TTRPG featuring the adventures of Lion-O and his fellow Thundercats as they struggle against the evil machinations of Mumm-Ra.

A 250-page rulebook will cover Thundercats lore, characters from the cartoon show and the comic-books, and, of course, the rules of the game. Lion-O, Cheetara, Tygra, Panthro, Pumyra, Mumm-Ra and more will feature in a game which is heading to retail 'soon'. You can build your own heroes to join the Thundercats--or, indeed, the Mutants.

There's no release date or system details yet, but we'll keep you updated when we hear more.

Update — the game has been confirmed as powered by 5E, and is coming to Kickstarter soon.

Feel the magic! Hear the roar! Thundercats are loose!

I still remember seeing this on the saturday block and going...
"Hmnn. He-man clone. I'm sure it will be..."
Blows up a planet with people still on it and kills off a main character, takes the kid and stuffs him in an adult body, and shows consequences, bad ones, for the things being done.
"Ah... okay. NOT a he-man clone... Kinda dark, actually."

It probably depends on whether or not the TTRPG will be based off of the original series, the remake of the series or both. Personally I would like to see it based off of the remake because of its' anthropomorphic diversity. ;)

The OG series actually had a number of animals that weren't in the remake. Also humans. The remake threw dogs in right at the start, but by nature of having a short run it didn't get to a lot of the expanded species we eventually saw in the original.

I'm hoping it's based off the lore of the original, myself. As much as I enjoyed the remake, I think one of the strengths of the original was that it didn't fall into the Looney Tunes tropes of cats vs dogs. And what I really want in the RPG is enclaves of different animals, ancient artifacts, and all around bizarre stuff. I don't need a heavy handed race war backdrop.
