When I first got together my girlfriend (of six years now), thought RPG's sounded dumb and boring. She obviously didn't like me being away at my gaming group, thus leaving her alone in the evenings (she was new in town at the time and didn't have any friends of her own).
There was really only one thing for it: Teach her the rules and invite her to play!
Her current character is number twenty-something, and she's enjoying the game immensly. For her secong-to-last character, took the time to stat up her character's husband, their two young kids, her parents, the husbands parents, her two sister-in-laws and even her blacksmith grandfather. (All these NPC family-members were commoners or experts, complete with stats, skills and
individual background-stories!) She even made a detailed drawing of the smal house her character lived in; exterior and floorplans!
All of this because I (as DM for that campaign) challenged her to come up with a rich background for her character... (And also because it was an extremely rainy four-day weekend!

)
Yeah, I'd say she's quite into the game!
