Time for Ceramic DM? (judge-free commentary thread NO JUDGES ALLOWED AS OF NOW :) )

I'm not sure I'll be any good at this.
That, right there, is the NUMBER ONE reason to do it.

If you only do things you're sure you'll be good at, you won't get much done. If you don't get in this round, Noskov, keep your eyes peeled and jump in next time. It's more fun than a barrel of Ritalin-deprived monkeys.

Woot! Zhaneel is in. Arwink is a competitor, as is Piratecat, two people that have judged previously. Mythago and Barsoomcore are joining alsih2o as judges. OrchidBlossom is back, as are Francisca and Macbeth. I think we have a few newcomers as well. And heh - we have three people from New Mexico. :)

It's going to be a great round!

alsih2o, do we have any genre considerations this time around? What about word limits? How many pictures in each round? I am getting the skeleton of the links menu ready now and will email you soon.

Clay, there is an email to you, with a text attachment. That should have the basic skeleton of the links menu. As always, it is a pleasure to be included in this little contest. :)

Ooh, hey! Is Sialia around? I hope she has some commentary on the stories. I love hearing her commentary.

Thanks for the add, and sorry to have rained on the 2nd chance idea.

I would much rather write (at least until I win, mwhahaha) than judge. Especially if I'm short on time. I can write stories while dodging around conferences, but judging that many stories and keeping people waiting. Nope. I couldn't committ to that right now.

And re: Stories from last time.

Vritra's Return has been edited and is my story to be workshopped by the Strange Horizons workshop. So, I'll let ya all know when it is published [WHEN not IF!]. I encourage ALL other writers from that and previous competitions to look into editing those beasts and sending them out.

And/or a collection of the best Ceramic DM stuff for a PDF publication to raise money here for EN World?

I really like that idea. Not sure if any of my stuff would be good enough to into it, but I would love to such a collection. We might try talking to the folks at ENPublishing to see if they might be interested...

[guiness commercial guy voice] Brilliant![/GCGV]

I won't come back in when stories start flying, I swear! :)

I have been looking at revisiting Meat to see if I can get it published. Cleansing has some possibilities to it as well. You beat me in the third round, remember? If my stuff is potentially good enough, yours is too! ;)

ENPublishing is probably the best way to go if you're serious about a compelation. That way we keep it "in house," so to speak, but the hard parts (layout, advertising) can be covered by the more experienced folks at ENPublishing.

And, just an idea, what if each author with a story in the compelation were to stat out one location/item/character/spell/monster from each story? Maybe I'm just crazy, but I think it would be fun to see how the talented authors of Ceramic DM could convert their creations to d20 stats. Having some "crunch" might also make the book financially more profitable, since it would broden the appeal.

But keep in mind, I'm no expert on this, these are just my feelings.
