Time for Ceramic DM? (judge-free commentary thread NO JUDGES ALLOWED AS OF NOW :) )

I think this is a GREAT idea, if ENPublishing is up for it. Somebody grab Ryan and get him in here! Actually, stand by, I'll ping him.

Woot! Zhaneel is in. Arwink is a competitor, as is Piratecat, two people that have judged previously. Mythago and Barsoomcore are joining alsih2o as judges. OrchidBlossom is back, as are Francisca and Macbeth. I think we have a few newcomers as well. And heh - we have three people from New Mexico. :)

Now we just have to figure out how to take you, BardStephenFox, Orchid Blossom and Piratecat, and the rest of us will have some kind of chance :p

You guys do remember I didn't make it past the first round last time, right? I mean, I know it was a good story, but geez..... (looks like I lost the sleeper advantage.)

With the talk of having a wildcard entry for round two, did you think everyone forgot your story? ;) No sleeper advantage for you!

Would starting a thread over in the ENPublishing forum be a good idea? Or can you get ahold of him more directly?

Do we need to post our entries in order (both M1, then M2, then M3) or should we post them when they're done? My story came quickly this time, and I may end up being done early.

Post when you are ready old man. If things get confusing it is my fault, we will survive :)

And re: Stories from last time.

Vritra's Return has been edited and is my story to be workshopped by the Strange Horizons workshop. So, I'll let ya all know when it is published [WHEN not IF!]. I encourage ALL other writers from that and previous competitions to look into editing those beasts and sending them out.

Excellent. There was a bunch of stories in the last competition that should be going places, and my inner-writing tutor gets pained by the thought that they might not be :D

Thanks. I'm pretty much done, but I'll take some time to reread and edit.

ENPublishing is probably the best way to go if you're serious about a compelation. That way we keep it "in house," so to speak, but the hard parts (layout, advertising) can be covered by the more experienced folks at ENPublishing.

And, just an idea, what if each author with a story in the compelation were to stat out one location/item/character/spell/monster from each story? Maybe I'm just crazy, but I think it would be fun to see how the talented authors of Ceramic DM could convert their creations to d20 stats. Having some "crunch" might also make the book financially more profitable, since it would broden the appeal.

But keep in mind, I'm no expert on this, these are just my feelings.

For a compelation, I agree that ENPublishing is probably the way to go. My instinct is to have the two final stories [or just the winner's stories?] for a first go, begging the authors' permission of course. And from there, other stories could be chosen to fill out the next volume(s).

But I don't do crunch. Crunch no workie. I'd have to "hire" out the crunch factor. Being mainly an author here, with only a AD&D 2nd Ed background here, I'd prefer all story based book, but that's just me.

And I would note: Fiction, good fiction, has a broader appeal overall [no offense] than d20 gaming, IMO. At EN World, yes I'm sure the d20 population is much higher than those who just want good fiction. But there are many, many places outside of EN World that love good fiction, and using that might be a way to bring people not from EN World over here to check out other stuff.

Just my thoughts. And if a thread goes up over in the publishing, let me know.

I have asked Maldur to take the lead on the pdf front.

If you are alright with us using your work please or you wish to help email him at bazz at xs4all dot nl .
