time to make the magic items

Who’s crafting all these magic items and selling them.
People complain about CLW wands, and how much magic is available in towns using the gp limit. Lets look into who is creating these items. I think the magic shops are going to suddenly have a shortage.

Did some number crunching using the city tables in DMG Table 4-45 and others.

Note If I use cleric I mean both cleric and druid. And mages mean sorcerer or wizard.

Scribe Scroll 1. Lots of these should be available. It takes at least 1 xp, 12 gp and 1 day. So basic low level scrolls are a quick fundraiser to raise money for leaking church roof.

Brew potion 3. With 6 clerics and 6 mages potions can be manufactured in any small town. However how busy are these people? Do all the clerics belong to same church? If not don’t you think they be busy running the church?
Also can anyone of them afford to lose 6 xp for every potion?

Craft wondrous item 3. Again 6 clerics and mages. So low level item could be for sell but look at brew potion for some comments.

Craft Magic arms and Armor 5 and Craft wand 5. First if really lucky the cleric in the small town may be able to do this. But he is awfully busy. Also it costs 30 xp for CLW wand. Plus 1 day and 375 gp. How much is in the collection plate?

Craft rod 9. Saddle up boys we going to the city. Hope we lucky because only one of each in the town. Cleric Bob can’t be to busy. Hope the mage can drop 40 xp per 1000 gp item.

Craft staff 12 Cleric Bob told us go to bigger city he was too busy beating his staff to craft one for us. What did he have against adventurers? But even in large city or metropolis only 1 of each type will be twelfth level or above. So up to 4 per city can create staffs. Hope the mage can drop 40 xp per 1000 gp item.

So it vary apparent that magic shops which carry anything above third level power will be rare and well guarded.
