Time to Reflect on 3.5 Disappointments

Well, it's come time to renew my Dragon subscription, and frankly I'm kind of sad. The whole 3.5 money grab has left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I just can't seem to find the need or motivation to buy into the whole upgrade. That said, I;m not sure I really want to pick up dragon again. In the last year or so, I started receiving the Knights of the Dinner Table monthly, and it's simply fantastic.

My intent is not to bash the whole 3.5/Dragon thing, but I wanted to know if there were others out there who were feeling the same way I was about the quality of WotC content of late. . . .

Well, I have not noticed a decrease in quality, just a decrease in quantity. I like both editions. Yeah, it probably WAS money motivated, but everything is in America. To "fight the power" you need to stop using cars, planes, electricity, fuel, cell phones, blah, blah, blah...and what is left? Ted Kazinsky.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. But always give it a FAIR chance. Bias based on motivation is is easy, seeing past that is not.

My 2gp,

And the 3.5 rules are free in the SRD sponsored by WotC ....

Absolutely right. There's no need to pay to update your flavor text. Just go to the SRD and download the material.

Disappointments...

Since they changed as much as they did I think they should have gotten rid of Craft Wonderous Items and come up with Feats for crafting magic-items that utilized a more tiered approach.

Nope, not me. Pretty happy with what WoTC is doing, rules wise and all its working great for me. Pretty dang happy with Dragon/Dungeon too.

Something like the following?

Craft Minor Magic Item (prerequisite: caster level 3) - Can create magic items up to 5,000 gp cost.

Craft Medium Magic Item (prerequisite: caster level 6 & Craft Minor) - Can create magic items up to 25,000 gp cost.

Craft Major Magic Item (prerequisite: caster level 9 & Craft Medium) - Can create magic items up to 50,000 gp cost.

Craft Supreme Magic Item (prerequisite: caster level 12 & Craft Major) - Can create magic items of any price.

We're splitting hairs here. . . I don't really care if it's WotC, Paizo, a free SRD or the books themselves. My question was if there was a general feeling of quality shift in the downwards direction. Over the last two years, I don't seem to find Dragon as relevent as I did before. Now, I have been playing Monte Cook's AU since the whole 3.5 fiasco, but I still love the FR products and am eagerly awaiting the Underdark piece. Notwithstanding that, I think that in general, The WotC/Paizo work has gotten a little weak.
