Time travel Characters.

A friend and I have recently been talking about time travelling characters. For example taking D20 modern characters back into the D&D fantasy world.

On a rules front what do you think is the best way to do this?

A long-lasting epic spell gone awry that sucks in the heroes? An artifact just lying about? Dunno what you really mean by 'rules front' though as time travel isn't really a rules question. :)

I mean converting D20 modern Characters into fantasy D&D characters at about level 5. I’m thinking mostly about skills, feats and attack bonuses here. Equipment is ok as everything seems scaled up anyway.

I thought you were asking how to get them there in the first place. :)

In any case, I thought the purpose of d20 was so that you didn't have to convert them. Just use the d20 Modern characters as is. At least, that's the way I've heard it was playtested.

The only change I would make is to make sure that you add in the "Class Bonus" to defense for all of the fantasy characters. I think Unearthed Arcana has the variant for this.
