Tiny preview for Scarrport: City of Secrets

Hiya :)

I'm glad you like the cover. It was done by Anthony Cournoyer. Absolutely outstanding artist.

I've got plans to do more Campaign Cutouts ( I'm already in the planning stages for the next one, actually) which will eventually become an entire world, but I want to present them as stand alone supplements that are easily used in your own home brew settings.

When put together, though, you'll notice that they all will fit together very nicely into one cohesive world.

Outstanding!

Well I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more.

I've been looking for a 4E product that used technology in its fantasy setting. Amethyst looked promising but then I lost interest after one of their previews said that they aren't going to follow all the ironclad rules of 4E. There's nothing that drives me more nuts then a 3rd party supliment that decides that the rules are D&D can't be followed....sorry for the mini rant its one of my pet peeves, I really hope you guys didn't feel the need to bend or ignore ironclad rules too....

I like the rules as they exist. I'll admit they feel alot like World of Warcraft in some places, but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing.

We haven't house-ruled anything in this supplement, and I don't really see the need to do so for future games.

You'll likely see rules for gambling, because it's part of the feel of Scarrport, but I don't think that's breaking any iron clad rules. If I'm not mistaken, 4e doesn't have any.

I'm happy to hear that your not doing house rules for this supliment. I have no problem with people adding rules for things that don't exsist, especially if its a self contained thing like gambling. The problem i have is when creators don't like rule X and they change it to rule Y without taking into acount how the change effects rules A through W. That happened alot in 3.0 and 3.5 third party supliments. I want something that will work for all of my games, not just one niche thing that only works in the confines of the setting it was built for (I'm lookng at you Sword and Sorcery Ravenloft!!!). This supliment so far looks rather promising, and I look forward to a full preview so I can make my informed decision about buying it. (so far though it looks like a yes)

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I certainly hope we don't dissapoint. :)

I would be remiss, however, if I failed to mention that Scarrport won't have nearly as much tech as Amethyst. It's first and foremost, a fantasy product, but it will have some steampunk elements.

I don't mind that there isn't as much tech as Amethyst, as long as you have guns that my GM will say ok, I'll be a happy player. Now if only someone would create some clockwork monsters, then the GM in me would be happy too....
