Tip about getting female gamers...

Yep, its definitely good to be able to "geek out" with your significant other. Before I met her, my girlfriend had not ever gamed (had some bad experiences with the nasty gamer types), but she was into horror, fantasy and sci-fi movies (and hates girly movies and tear-jerkers), ... And not to brag too much, but she makes all of those GenCon booth babes look rather plain. :D

Agreed. My wife got involved w/ gaming because I gamed. Now she can't wait for the next game. What's funny is that she's probably the most rapid hack-slash player in the group, but she always throws in some personality.

It was great when we decided to just do movie and a dinner for our anniversary (sure, it's modest, but we'd just gotten back from a long vacation), I told her I'd see whatever movie she wanted, she picked"Reign of Fire".

My wife can turn some heads, too. Ah, the best of all worlds. :)

I think our group would fall apart if there was a female in it... unless she was ugly and had a good personality.

I know that sounds bad but it's true. If a reasonably good looking woman joined our group I think the dynamics of it would change for the worse. I know at least one player who would fawn all over her and I would be conscious of it and get pissed off.

Okay, let's try something. Whenever you see a thread like this and are tempted to post, just before you click the "submit reply" button, go back and read what you just wrote. When you do, substitute the word "female" with "black", or "asian," or even "male." Is it suddenly offensive? Then delete it and don't post.

I'm tired of reading sexist posts that are making the women on this board uncomfortable. Please try to use good judgement, because my tolerance for this sort of rubbish is fading fast.

If I were to say, in text, simply "F--- off!" then there are several different ways in which that can be interpreted. Context plays a role but if I simply said it, without any apparent context or for any reason, then it would be essentially up to the person reading it to, sort of, fill in the blank, ie. the intended meaning.

Now, if I were a negative person who believed that everyone is nasty and mean, then naturally I'd be inclined to think that the person who said that, meant that they wanted me to go away and they were not being nice about it.

However, if I were a positive person who believed that people are, in general, good at heart, then I'd look upon that sentance as nothing more than someone playfully saying nothing much of anything. How many times has a friend told you to get lost and not meant it, literally?

I ask that you read the above and put a positive spin on it; for that was the spirit in which it was written. If everybody were to go around taking offence at everything everyone ever said, then the world would be full of war. Oh... the horror.

I have exactly zero interest in either clever rationalization or debating the point. My statement stands. Whether you meant it offensively or not, it reads that way, and that simply isn't acceptable.

If this is somehow a problem, feel free to email me or post in the meta forum.
