Tips for Clerics

Cleric of Tyre

Ok -- forgive my ignorance. Are you referring to a god or a place in the Middle East? Assuming you're referring to a god, what are his domains? My feeling is that when building a cleric, it's all about domains. You decide on your domains, then you assign your other ability scores and pick your skills and feats.

I've got to concur with the multiple holy symbol comment. Our party totally decimated an enemy cleric when I disarmed him of his only symbol....

More priestly, less combat cleric eh?

Talk to your DM as to what he interprets for oration / leading sermons. Some will say Diplomacy, as this reflects your ability to present your opinion / goals in a manner that serves your best interests (getting followers) while others will tell you to get Profession (Speaker) or Perform (Oration). Whichever it is, max the skill. Beyond that, high CHA.

Make definite connections to your church and try to set up a "I do this / get XXX followers in Templetown and you give me X adepts to run the church with me." Build your own temple, consider taking the landlord feat and turn it into a cathedral.

Consider picking up a few item creation feats. Just to be original, I'll posit Brew Potion... you will get steady income if you charge your team mates below norm but well within the profit margin, and you can use this money to make up for your non-combat focus with better gear. Furthermore you can fund new temples or decorate your old ones.. invest in town infrastructure or simply have grand sacrifices to Tyr.

If you do get all of this done, consider taking classes and feats or even templates that bring you closer to your deity... Divine Agent is a great example of this. None of this looks great on paper perhaps, but realize that being in favor with your god may be one of the most powerful things you have on your side, DM willing. Of course talk to your DM first so you won't expect too much... being a "hee a deity likes me lots!" character can be fun in it's own right anyway... they're one of the few concepts out there that actually doesn't mind the prospect of death.

Fungie,

I believe he meant Tyr, the Faerunian god of Justice, Law and a few others. He's also based on the Norsian god by the same name.

I'm always baffled by how people abbreviate my handle. What are Tyr's domains?

Well there's a g and a s in there...I just mixed them around. ;)

I'd have to check...but I'm sure Law, Good and Retribution are three of them.

Make sure you and the DM have a clear view on alignment. it will really help keep your spells available.

Perhaps see if he is willing to give you a religeon check [DC varying on the question] to Remember a bit of relevant scripture to a sticky moral situation. "....and St Cuthuburt struck down the vile children with the bones of the parents they slaughtered"

A cleric of Tyre? Make sure you regularly check your pressure, and avoid too much wear on your treads, because that could indicate that your alignment isn't balanced.

Oh, and wear a steel belt. :p

And always make sure to rotate a lot. ;)

Alright here's what I got on Tyr as it pertains to the Realms:

Portofolio: Justice

Typical Worshippers: Paladins, judges, magistrates, lawyers, police and the oppressed

Domains: Good, Knowledge, Law, Retribution, War

Favored Weapon: "Justicar" (Longsword)
