TMNT: The Movie

Saw the matinee today with my son.

Surprisingly it was...good! I read the review yesterday in the paper (D) so I wasn't expecting anything worthwhile. All I can say is the reviewer must have had different expectations going in.

Story starts a year after the team breaks-up. Well, really Leo is sent out by Splinter to learn to be a leader, and the other three are left up to their own devices. An ancient evil comes to the city and the heroes must solve what's going on while they try to stay a team.

Not a great amount of humor in the movie as it was much more action-oriented. The villain has you guessing to his intentions, and all the old favories (except for Shredder) figure in the plot. Also a great sub-plot about family between Leo and Raph. Plenty of monsters and evil looking stony-villians.

Animation I think made this movie much better than if they tried another live action. Many shots in the movie had the feel of the original comic, which for you old comic fans were based on Frank Miller's DD & Ronin series. So there's your tie-in to 300!

I also liked it because as I sat there I was trying to stat out the characters in my mind. The core plot would make for a good higher-level quest.

I give it a "B" and will probably buy the DVD when it comes along. My 6 year old son liked the whole thing and didn't get antsy until the last 20 minutes (a good sign for him).

What did you think about the movie?

I liked it a lot! It was a fun movie that reminded me of my childhood. And it was just plain entertaining! :)
Ditto! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

If I have only one complaint, it's that the storyline felt like it could easily be stretched out to a whole season's worth of cartoon episodes. Otherwise, count me as another one who thought the movie rocked!

I was surprised by how much they packed into 90 minutes worth of film. And it didn't feel rushed at all.

But I loved it. It was everything I'd hoped it would be.

Just took my almost 6 year old boy to see it. We loved it. He's never been that huge of a turtle fan (only a few tmnt toys) but he was really revved up to see it. I went in kind of skeptical, but I can honestly say it brought me back to being a tmnt fan. Out of all the movies I think it's at least as good as the first one if not better; although I think it might be better. Miles beyond 2 and 3 and much better then any of the cartoons. I'd love to see another. Hope this does well.

I thought the animation was great, too. There's one scene in particular, during a rainstorm. The almost 3D look on that one shot was astounding. That disney flick is coming out next week, so it looks like it'll have serious competition.

I saw the film yesterday. It was awesome, even moreso considering that it's truly the fourth film in the movie series and not a reboot!

As a matter of fact, the film's Wikipedia page (which itself contains spoilers) includes an interesting tidbit about a scene in the film full of references to the past and present films:

Towards the end of the film, several items are shown that reference the live action movies. These include: Shredder's helmet and staff, the canister of ooze that mutated the turtles and Splinter (labeled TCRI instead of TGRI, though the crack is strategically placed to work either way), Winters' helmet, the time scepter from the third film, and pieces of the battle suits of armor worn by the Turtles in the third film.

I so can't wait for the sequel! :D

For some strangely sick reason, I was kind of wanting to see this movie.

With that, along with the comments in this thread, I now want to see it even more than before. You guys certainly are making me aim for the theaters soon (especially Goodsport's post).
