To Catch a Crimelord, or Down the Rabbit Hole (garyh judging)

Kruk recalls that when the elders were talking about devices that could transport to distant lands he'd heard them mention that their ultimate goal was to reach the fabled dwarven cities of gold in the central mountain of the Valley of Bone. He also remembers them discussing that the weakest point in the leylines that would lead there were around the semi-nomadic of the Ulmar spent their winters.

Lily gazed at the portal with wide liquid eyes.

Do you think that's where your Mr. X is? If it is, he wouldn't just leave the other side unguarded, right? Oh! Maybe he's one of those building thingies!

After a moment she looked around at the others, I kind of want to see what's on the other side.

Turning back to the portal she squinted at the hazy image that presented itself, trying make out any additional detail or sign who might be on the other side.

Heh, probably not.

"Looks like Mr. X, whoever he is, must be somewhere on the far side of that... thing. Maybe this would be a good time for us to rest and prepare for a fight."

Grim motioned backwards toward the ladder.

"After all... if those characters upstairs worked for 'Mr. X', our quarrel with the man himself might prove taxing."

Carolina looks at the others in turn to see who's going to make the decision.

"No sense in just standin' here," she says as she wriggles through the gaps between the larger folks. She looks back at them and nods, and then steps through the portal.

Lily watched with a certain amount of awe as Carolina stepped through the portal.

Oh! She's brave.

She studied the portal a moment longer as Kruk went through next, then screwing up her courage approached the thing. Taking a deep breath and holding it like she was about to dive under water, she stepped through.

Raiyek opens his mouth to object as everyone starts going through the portal, but stops. No point ... they're right, anyway. If we want Mr. X, we need to go through, the elf thinks.

"Alright then,"
he says with a sigh, suppressing his reservations. "I wonder if it feels the same as the Imperium's portals ..." he mumbles as he steps into the gateway behind Lily.
