To James Jacobs: A Growing Problem with Dungeon Magazine

Where? All the monsters in 143 have full stat-blocks reprinted except in the IoD wander monster tables. The only exception would be an ECS reference in an Eberron adventure dealing with artificier infusions.

I have to second this statement. I haven't read Tides of Dread (I'm playing in a STAP PbP here on ENW) but the other adventures listed have every statblock listed - including an Eberron adventure, for those keeping track at home. ;)

If you read Tides of Dread (that's what I'm running this weekend) you'll see a lot of monsters that need other sourcebooks to run them. To get from level 9 to 10 as the adventure suggests you'll need to use these tables.

And that's the policy under discussion. It isn't about changing the policy -it is about expanding the underlying assumption about what is "core" and what isn't.

I suggest expanding the definition of "core" by one book - or (option 2) by three books.
I have absolutely no interest in such a policy.

Or, you can just reroll the encounters with monsters from books you don't own. The bulk of the monsters on those wandering monster lists are from the Monster Manual or have stat blocks in that issue.

Saying that you meant only references instead of reprints seems like an equivocation in the face of mounting evidence that does not support your conclusions.

Please, folks, address the content, not the poster. Don't get into trying to acsribing the motives for other people's posts. The internet is a very poor medium for mind-reading, and trying to do so is usually a recipe for someone feeling insulted.

*laughs* Well, there are lots of sonnets out there. :)

OT- I think the clue is that it's not spoken (like a poem) but more melodic (sung) like a sonnet.

Any fiends out there who sing? Evil Harpies or something?

I'm going to throw out a guess for Malcanthet (sp?), Queen of Succubi and (potential spoiler for Dungeon-related material)
behind-the-scenes player in Savage Tide
. Seems appropriate.

If only it were that simple for spells, feats, classes, etc...

Oh, wait a minute...

Dungeon uses noncore feats and classes all the time. Substituting spells? That's far easier than redesigning an NPC for a different feat or class. Seriously. If you want an NPC to have acid breath instead of fireball, it's not that big of a change. Personally, I change spells in the middle of combat to make for a more interesting encounter.

That being said, there are those readers who will never be satisfied with what is being printed, and seek to have their vision incorporated in Dungeon or Dragon. There's nothing wrong with that, but there is a point where it boils down to this: What Erik, James, James, Mike, Lisa, Michelle, and the rest do works. From what I've seen (and read, and purchased) they know what they are doing, and I for one am satisfied with the content on the magazines currently.
