to screen or not to screen do you roll in front of your players?

Sometimes behaind the screen, sometimes in the open.

I generally roll behind the screen, but that's mostly because it's there, hiding my notes. The table I usually DM at isn't quite big enough, so there isn't any room for me to roll in the open unless I actually get up and stand on one side of the table between 2 players--in which case I can't see my notes.

However, I sometimes roll in the open or even give my dice to one of the players when a great deal is riding on the outcome.

Only those rolls that might influence a player's attitude are made behind the screen (which mostly is there to hold my notes).

For instance: Appraise, Gather Information, Search and Spot are nearly always done by the GM (me) behind the screen. Diplomacy, Intimidate and Survival might be rolled secretly, but not always. And so on.

Attack rolls, saves etc. are rolled in the open. I hate it when my players think I'm fudging rolls (in their favor or not).

[Edit: ]
When a hit is a potential crit, I let my players confirm the crit, so they only got themselves to blame ;)
