Tokiwong's 3.5 Game: Chapter 1 (The Swarm)

Bjorn smiles and says, "I would be honored if you would accept the grace of the Moon. As a cleric of Corellon I can channel his power to heal your wounds. Unfortunatly I have not the grace to raise your friend."

Any who come to Bjorn will recieve a cure light wounds (he can cast up to 3 per day)

Lif listens to the half-elf priest and nods, “See, he wishes to heal us, I knew they could be trusted!”

Cenkil shakes his head in exasperation, “Your foolishness will lead ye to an early grave, Lif. If ye wish to help-”

Before he can finish one of the silent dwarves, five in total outside of Cenkil and Lif, screams loudly as he clutches at his back in pain. They turn to see a swarm of ten spiders moving towards the party and the dwarves. The spiders are about eighteen inches across, and have blue carapaces with mottled black and brown spots, and somewhat resemble termites with large biting mandibles as they push towards the group.

The dwarves are closest to the swarm of spiders, one was bit for 2 points. The silent dwarves stand about 10 feet from across from the party, while Lif and Cenkil are right next to the party. The spiders are approaching in a rough line, about ten feet wide towards the group.

Cenkil growls, “Blast this mountain!”

Initiative: Kerrik 26, Spiders (10) 21, Jason 8, Jalban 6, Bjorn 7, Cenkil 5, Drakor 4, Lif 4, Dwarves (5) 2

Combat has begun, Kerrik goes first.

Kerrik freezes in fear, just staring at the horde of spiders. Then, he recalls the instinctual arcane words and gestures in his head, and begins casting. His eyes turn red, , and his left hand moves in intricate patterns in the air. Sopio, he incants, attempting to center the burst to catch the greatest number of spiders and the least number of dwarves. After casting, he scurries away from the spiders, drawing his crossbow.

OOC: Cast Sleep hitting the maximum number of spiders in a 15 ft. burst and hitting least number of dwarves. Will most likely center burst behind the spiders to avoid hitting the dwarves; affect 4 HD worth of spiders, Will Save DC 15 to avoid. Then move thirty feet back, drawing crossbow as part of move action.

Kerrik casts the sleep spell on the encroaching spiders making sure to move back, and they seem to be unaffected as the spell washes over the vermin. The spiders attack the first of the dwarves! Their mandibles clamping down on anything they can get a hold of. Two dwarves feel the sting of the spider’s bite as they clamp their mandibles into their limbs.

Kerrik’s spell fails on the spiders; they are considered Vermin and immune to Mind-Affecting Compulsion Spells. Two of the Dwarves are struck one takes 2 points, the other takes 1. Kerrik cannot draw his Crossbow yet, he can draw it next round as a Move-Equivalent action.

The rest of the spiders flood past the dwarves and one tries to attack Cenkil as another makes a run at Bjorn. One makes a charge at Drakor, while another spider tries to maim Lif, and the final one tries to bite into Jason. Cenkil is struck in the thigh by the vicious spider’s mandibles. Another stabs its mandibles into Bjorn drawing blood from the half-elven priest. The rest of the spiders are ineffective in their vicious if mindless attacks!

Cenkil takes 1 point of damage, and Bjorn takes 2 points of damage! It is now Jason’s turn in the Initiative ranks.

Jalban swirls his hoooked hammer about his body and leaps towards the nearest spider, bringing the hammer end down in a powerful two-handed smash.

OOC: When it's my turn, of course. :) Since I don't have TWF yet, I'll just use the hammer end as a two-handed weapon until further notice.

Jason tries to strike at the spider, attacking him, but his rapier goes wide, as the spider shifts its weight and avoids the clumsy attack. It clicks its mandibles as the two continue to square off.

Jason uses a Move-Equivalent action to draw his rapier, then an attack action to strike, rolling a 10 and missing.

Jalban brings his hooked hammer down in a wild strike as he strikes at the spider trying to maim Bjorn, but the weapon falls short of the spider!

Jalban rolled a strike of 8 and misses.

Bjorn draws his blade and tries to strike as well, but his blade glances off the spider’s carapace in a weak strike, as he tries to get his footing.

Bjorn rolled a strike of 7 and misses.

Cenkil bring his dwarven war axe to bear, and slams it down into the spider trying to accost him, splitting it in half with ease, as he yells out a dwarven curse.

Cenkil rolled a strike of 21 and does 7 damage, killing the spider!

Drakor meanwhile is able to bring his large blade down into the spider accosting him, and splits the hard carapace spraying warm internals across the rocks.

Drakor rolled an 18 to strike and did 7 damage as well. Leaving now only 8 spiders left to fight.

Lif raises his axe to strike but misses, as he stumbles back to avoid the spider. He stays on the ready but the fear in his eyes, belies his show of courage.

Lif rolled a 6 to strike, and missed.

The dwarven soldiers strike back at the spiders, and between the five of them, they are able to slay three, of the mindless creatures. They then converge on the remaining two spiders, which seem to show no concern for themselves or their well being clicking their mandibles in a mindless fury!

Three Blackhorn dwarves hit, killing three spiders. It is now Kerrik’s turn. The start of Round 2.
