Tomb of Horrors 4e - Mouseferatu style

I can assure you that it's an adventure, not a string of random encounters. Each chapter can be placed throughout a campaign or even, with tweaks, used on its own--as mentioned in the announcement--but they're not just random collections of encounters.

Oh, one thing I wondered. It's been stated that this is a collection of adventures rather than a full adventure. What about that?
As a clearer question: Can you legally level up a standard 5-person party from 10:th to 22:nd running ONLY Tomb of Horrors 4E, or are you supposed to interject other stuff?

Nope, read the announcement again. :) The chapters can be used as standalone adventures--with some tweaks--but they're made to form an ongoing plotline to weave through a campaign.

Nope, they're meant to be interspersed throughout an ongoing campaign, mixed in with other stuff. It can form the basis of a campaign, with "side adventures" between chapters, or you can use it as just one of several recurring plotlines, based on how you like to design campaings.

And I think I'm really starting to skirt the line between "clarifying what can already be taken from the announcements" and "revealing new info," so I'm probably not going to be able to answer much else. ;)

Yeah, I am with the others. You better not screw this one up, or hordes of old-school players will come looking to sacrifize you on the altar of grognardism. ;)

Personally, I am looking forward to this new take on a classic, especially since I have already converted and played ToH with my players. I think if done right, you (well WotC) might have found the recipe for future mega-dungeons: Instead of taking people from level 7 to 15, they are linked adventures spread out over level 4 to 18.

Personally, I love the idea of linked adventures. That way if the DM likes they can add more in a similar vein, but more importantly you insert other cool delves, adventures and encounters that may not have anything to do with the ToH. Very good idea in my book.

With Ari writing - I am sure this will be good.

So Ari, can you reveal anything about your writing partner? That shouldn't breach your 'say no more' stance should it? ;)

Oh that is going to happen anyway.

Looking forward to tormenting my players with it Ari :D

I'm not a 4e adopter or fan, but I may have to get this. The original tomb was fantastic, but I was only lukewarm on the 2e Return adventure. Here's hoping the Ari and the rest of the staff nailed it.

But one of the things that was so cool about the original was that for the most part, a party of cautious 2nd and 3rd level characters could overcome the challenges. Granted, its not likely to happen unless you've read the text, but nonetheless the oppurtunity for player skill to really shine is there. All the extra hit points and stuff really are is a buffer in which you can write your mistakes. They aren't essential to the solution. 'Die, no save' turns out to have a certain fairness in its application that is hard to capture with anything else. Acererak plays fair.

Truth. Tomb of Horrors is my favorite module, and I've always been looking for something that matches up to it in the inventiveness of the rooms. Everything else I've read has mostly failed for this reason right here.

I'm in.

I have distant nightmares about my time with the original, but we fired up some of our very oldest characters and converted them to 3e for the conversion Wizards released, and it's one of the best one-shots we ever did.

Standalone chapters that can be dropped here and there throughout the campaign is just waht the doctor ordered!

Going the "inspired by" route instead of a direct conversion works for me.

For good or for ill, the original ToH is very much an AD&D adventure and a new version for 4e is IMHO better served by rebuilding it. Besides, I already have both ToH and RToH... :)

Is it set up similarly to the Revenge of the giants hardback?
