Tomb Under the Tor (New Playtest Report)

Exciting and slightly worrying.

Exciting: Sounds like a lot of cool options here.

Worrying: One of my big hopes is that 4e speeds up combat. A 1st level character getting 2 shots in a round, then more via an immediate action, sounds like the opposite. Star Wars Saga was a step in the right direction by making (some) feats like Rapid Shot add additional damage if you score a hit (representing more than 1 shot hitting the target), but you still only make 1 attack roll. I'm hoping that the design team are holding to that philosophy of making fights "fast and fun", rather than an exercise in making the other players wait minutes while that one guy makes all his rolls.

What spell is that? I'm not overly familiar with spells, but it sounds like Fireball. Could it be that Fireball will be available at 1st-level as a "Per Day" spell (possibly becoming a "Per Encounter" spell after you advance a few levels)? Whatever it is, it sounds cool.
Yeah, "pulling out all the stops" implies a per day ability. However, I doubt that it will be something along the lines of fireball as we know it. A spell that created a fiery explosion in a single 5-foot square (so that it normally only affects just one target) would not be out of line for a 1st-level spell, though.

I don't like warforged being core. Perhaps it's because I connect them very much with a particular campaign setting, so I don't see them as a general race. If warforged are going to be core now, I'm wondering if any of the other Eberron ideas going to be incorporated into the 4ed PHB?

Changlings. :)

I truely hope the Warforged is for playtest only, to be in a later PHB. The concept is fairly interesting... but SO not a core D&D fantasy creature. Warforged are just too steampunky.

Eladrin/Tieflings are already a serious deviation.

Changlings... ick. Yet another half-breed that's somehow a viable race/species.

The Changeling isn't much of a half breed...more like the tiefling or aasimar. And let's be fair, if anyone could become genetically viable as a half-breed, it's a shapechanger.

However, I hate the Warforged. Like a thousand burning suns. They're loaded with all kinds of crazy abilities that make them immune to almost everything except damage, and they're supposed drawbacks actually end up helping them. Ugh. Plus, fantasy robots = the suck.
