Tome of Artifacts

And oh yeah, "a number of obscene tables" ? I'm so buying. . . oh. :o

Well, I did say it was the number of tables that was obscene, not the tables themselves. This isn't an adults-only book. ;)

(Although a few of the artifacts, such as the Lamentation Engine, are probably not suited to light-hearted campaigns. :])

And yes, speaking of, there are artifacts for all styles of games, from high epic adventure to dark fantasy/horror to fairy tales, and even one or two that can be used as comic relief, if you choose to play up their more comic aspects.

I'm going to have to fit this into my budget for either next month or Sept.

I have a feeling with this I'll be able to make use of the cool backstories in all the "Powers" books I bought. Great stories for most of those items, just the powers were too much.

Ari,

I personally LOVED the Lamentation Engine. I had considered revising the backstory to make it coincide with introduction of the near Cenobite creatures (the N'gaara(sp)) from Tome of Horrors II...but then I thought "Nah. The Abyss is fine for this sort of stuff!" :)

Tree,

I'm sure you can fix that for the Powers book to work with what's suggested in the tables.

But to heartily endorse it more, there are PLENTY of ways to play up the usage and themes for each artifacts. The Pepper-grinder, for example, would work GREAT in say a True d20 campaign setting like Blue Rose. Meanwhile for a nice dark horror feel, there's always the Hungry stone by Keith. It's pretty sweet. It certainly can also fit into a Scarred Lands game without too much problem too. :)

Mostly folks this book has something for EVERYONE. Trust me, it's THAT good.

Well, to basically repeat what I said about the book over on the Necro boards:

I was really impressed. It's a quality product. I like the way the artifacts are presented... full of ideas, and giving you adventure seeds for each one to get your campaign rolling.

The art was sparse, but good. The lucky coin pic made me smile. I'm not as big a fan of LeBlanc as some Necro-fans are, but for his stuff, I thought it was really good.

Psion,

I will admit, the art isn't as stellar as some others, but I think you and I both agree, the fluff and in some ways the crunch sells the book without that much need for art.

Btw which Kaiju do you like better, the Siege Hound or the Juggernaut?

I purchased the Tome of Artifacts after hearing so much praise about it on these very boards.

I must say, the description given here repeatedly is fairly accurate: a huge catalog of really powerful, unique and sometimes downright bizarre magic items that have much, much to offer in terms of flavor and inspiration, as well as cool mechanical treatments to go with each of them.

It's good. Very good.

If you're into catalogs of unique magic items with tons of flavor, you'll love this book.
