TOME OF BATTLE: What are your expectations?

I'd like to see what happens. Mystic weapon fighters are a favorite archetype of mine, and something that Final Fantasy does great that I don't see a lot of in D&D yet.

I'm also cautiously optimistic.

I'm hoping for a little bit of combat goodness that all my PCs can join in on. While 160 pages may seem a little thin compared to Tome of Magic (An excellent book!), Combat Crunch n' Fluff most likely takes up less room.

This was one of the last books put before me as something to potentially work on before I left WotC, and at the time I expressed no interest in it. My reasoning is that there is already a very detailed, very complicated system for combat already in place within the game. I didn't feel particularly interested in adding additional complication to combat that will likely result in combat requiring even more time to play out.

While working on it wasn't really my cup of tea, I am interested to see what they came up with, so I'll probably pick it up and check it out.

Better rules for mounted combat and tounament jousting would be my #1 hope.

Honor and Morale and Reputation rules are always nice.

The reduction of over 100 pages compared to ToM is the only thing that has me worried, as if the writers didn't care to put as much effort into it as they did with Tome of Magic.

Still, it's too early to tell, but it is worrying me.

The page count has nothing to do with the writers or effort, and everything to do with how WotC outlines the book, and how many resources they want to commit to it.
