Looks like they announced it about 3 hours ago on Facebook.
I ran it a few times, always as one-shots. It needs to be played at breakneck speed, without thought or planning, so I found sessions had to be fairly short, and were quite tiring.
I kind of hope the default format isn't a big oversized paperback, like the original books were. Toon feels like it cries out for a small paperback similar to the old Archie Double Digests -- something flexible that will look better the more loved it gets.A little more than 8 days until the launch and about 450 people signed up. I doubt it’ll break any records but I’m really looking forward to it.
I’m kind of indifferent to size. I’m more curious about paperback vs hardback. I’d want a hardback that’s made to last.I kind of hope the default format isn't a big oversized paperback, like the original books were. There were eight books total. Four including the core for the first run. The deluxe core which gathered in some content from the previous supplements. And three more supplements…one for gear, one for other genres of cartoons to play, and one adventure anthology. Was the old line more than just the original core book and then the big expansion book? I didn't recall it extending past that.
Even if they straight reprinted Deluxe Toon, it would still be lighter than Mörk Borg and probably Kobolds. I haven’t looked at that one in ages. For Toon, most of the rules “bulk” comes from the 23 skills. And yes, that content could definitely be formatted better and be fit into a single volume. And dumping rules granularity -- which was always off-theme for Toon -- would make that even easier.
If the second edition of this game is more rules heavy than Mork Borg or Kobolds Ate My Baby!, that's a huge red flag. (And I would be surprised if they don't trim it way down.)
