1. Rekindled my groups' interest in D&D, and brought back some old 1E buddies.

2. Made me want to DM again.

3. Concentrated on gaming around the table, as opposed to optimization away from it.

1) Save mods->fixed DC, reflex = touch AC
2) No full attacks.
3) No dead levels (though SWSE did it better)
4) Death & dying.

X*) Lightening the load on my gaming budget.
* - Because this really is not a direct commentary on the mechanics, like the entirety of some other folks' posts.

I don't play 4E, so take that into consideration. I've formed my opinion from reading the books.

1. The condensed skill system. This is a case where less is definitely more.

2. The economy. I like it so much that I'm using it in my 3.5 game.

3. Two-weapon fighting. The best I've seen in any game edition so far.

I also do not play 4E, but I have incorporated some 4E ideas into my 3.5 game. So right now:

1. Monster design, resulting in much less prep work for DM.

2. Parties don't need a divine spellcaster or a wand of CLW to survive.

3. Save-or-die nerfing.

I don't play 4e, but my top 3, because I would have liked to have seen them done for 3e.

1. Removing most of the non-biological elements from race and making them feats.

2. Heroic Tier Multiclassing

3. balancing the classes (despite my not liking the choice of mechanics to do so).

Honorable Mention: single saving throw progression.

I would have said that before I played 4e, and indeed I did. What I'm finding, however, is that it may be one of those 'watch what you wish for' things. I could not STAND the fact in 3e that certain classes became all but marginalized as one climbed the levels...

...and I have received the parity I asked for in 4e. Only to find I'm not sure the treatment is worse than the disease. The classes in 4e are very, very similar mechanically (they have to be, or you lose the balance mathematically). It's hard to accept, to be honest. I guess it's better than the alternative, but it's not nearly as cool as I hoped it would be.

Sorry to sorta jump off track on this thread.
