Total of 6 Spidey Movies

It's a pretty big "if," but if the movies do indeed retain their quality, I'm cool with this. Looks like a chance to give all the classic Silver Age Spidey villains a chance to shine. Personally, I'm hoping to see Electro and the Vulture at some point in the future.

If only they would do six movies, ending with the Sinsister Six... (and f only they weren't hells bent on obliterating the villians instead of letting them get away to fght another day!)
I don't think the Spidey movies have that bad a track record when it comes to killing off villains. Sure, Goblin was killed off, but he was killed off in the comics too. And Doc Ock didn't die, he just mysteriously disappeared - there's plenty of comeback ability there.

Update:Some clarity is needed here, the correct number for Spidey films, are number 4, 5, and 6, which includes the original 2 already made, and the third starting up soon for filming. *Whew*, still smells fishy:p

The reason they kill off the villians is because it makes sense within the context of the movies. And these are movies, not animated comic books.

Big budget fair like this is most likely too expensive to serialize given the relativly low public interest in the comic format. If the movies were as repetitive and overwrought as the comics they are based on, I can assure you (or not) that the audience would shrink exponentially.

The powers that be are smart in adapting comic themes and stories to the big screen without being hobbled by the limitations that are inherent (or atleast ridiculously predominate) in the monthly comic book.

Of course, I could be wrong...

I think the worst villan death was that of the Joker in the first Batman. That character has so much depth to him you could have a few times and people would not be tired of him.

I think they're hoping more along the lines of a continuing "James Bond" franchise...how long have they been making James Bond movies now?
Perhaps now, somebody's hoping that. But Spidey 1 & 2 certainly weren't written that way. Every Bond movie I've seen has been written using a self-contained format (i.e. no romances that go beyond the film they appear in, no changes to the character's circumstances/personality, no villains survive the movie they first appeared in, etc.) Spidey is the exact opposite of that. 1 & 2 are very clearly a journey for the Spiderman character, Mary Jane continues to be the love interest in the romantic plot, a plot which has made dynamic progress during the course of the two movies, and the villain (presumably) of Spidey 3 has been an integral part of Spidey 1 and Spidey 2. Each movie builds on the next, unlike the Bond movies which do not.

I suppose three more Spidey movies may not be a bad thing, but I am skeptical that they'll be as good as I've found the first two, and hope to find the third. :)

Blofeld? Jaws?

That one was a close one. According to the trivia on IMDb for "The Spy Who Loved Me":

imdb.com said:
The original script called for Jaws to perish after Bond used an industrial magnet aboard the Super Tanker to drop him into the tanker's furnace. The scene was storyboarded using Richard Kiel and Roger Moore as models, and apparently rehearsed, but ultimately scrapped in favor of bringing Jaws back for the next film. When the film was previewed, audiences cheered when they saw Jaws swimming away in the end.

Bond's marriage was in at least 2 movies: occurring in Her Majesty's Secret Service and visiting her grave in For Your Eyes Only (I think) with a possible mention in one of the Brosnan pics (might've been during the Dalton Era). Felix was also a semi recurring character, first in Dr No and most recently in a Dalton as Bond film (License to Kill?). General Gogol was also a semi recurring villain / pain in the butt for Bond but its been awhile so I'm going on memory.

Now, as for Spidey, I'd love to see a few more movies so long as it doesn't degenerate like the Bat-franchise. If Kirsten leaves, maybe 'Felicia Hardy' can enter for a bizarre love quadrangle: Felicia - Peter - Spidey - Black Cat. They could go weird with the original Clone Wars saga involving the Jackal and use Gwen Stacy as a love interest, even the Spider Slayers or Jonah's Scorpion project, anything but the Venom stuff.
