Play a Dwarf, he get's an automatic Search check at +2 to notice Traps in stonework and he can use Power Attack to open locked doors.

Why not play an elf who has +2 to spot, search, and listen all the time?

Seriously, the Human Paragon is a good idea, especialy when you can use one of your skills as a class skill.

See if the GM will let you take trap finding as a feat. If so, take human paragon/ranger, you get tons of skill points, search is already a class skill, and all you need is disable device and/or open locks. Stack that with Able learner, and you'll be gold.
