traveler D20

No new edition or revision yet. QLI is trying to get out 2320AD (the d20 version of 2300AD) and the d20 Traveller's Guidebook for Players at the moment. I know that 2320AD will come out first.

Interesting. I ran a very enjoyable Traveller 2300 (and later 2300AD) campaign back when they first appeared. Some of the sci-fi concepts were excellent, and I really enjoyed most of the alien races they produced. Some of the best sci-fi adventure modules (after FASA) too.

More news...

A deal has supposedly been worked out. The Traveller's Guidebook, with more character options, complete chargen, etc., should be out soon from QLI.

Interesting. I just started playing around with T20 this spring, and I have to say it's a pretty remarkable translation of Traveller into d20 term, particularly given when it came out. At that point in time the road was strewn with failed d20 conversions, including several from WotC.

I do think T20 could use a second edition to incorporate many of the advances in the d20 engine -- particularly from d20 Modern, Spycraft, and True20 -- that have appeared since.

Yeah, I'm toying with a few house rule possibilities:
1) Using T20 to replace bits about D20 Modern I don't like (autofire, ship combat, etc.)
2) Adding Dramatic Conflict rules (esp. chases and hacking) to T20.
3) Porting the T20 classes to d20 modern advanced classes; this would kill two birds with one stone in that it would shore up some weaknesses of T20 classes and it would make pre-career experience more meaningful.
4) Changing the T20 lifepath system to snap in Spycraft classes (e.g., Marines and Army would have soldier class, academics would have scientist class, merchant could be advocate or facemen, scouts could be explorers or wheelmen, etc.)

will these be out in print versions

I think 2320 will be available via print on demand and hard copy one day, but the Guidebook I'm guessing will only be in .pdf.

Garn, where did you see the Traveller conversion? AFAIK one was done for Alternity in Dragon magazine but not for the d20 system.

I agree 100% that a second edition needs to be done to make T20 compatible for the D20 Future OGL rules and fix some bugs like the computer rules. But QLI has been lucky to get 2320 out, its just the one guy Hunter Gordon. Then there's the other issue as far as D20 Future is concerned a lot of people aren't impressed with the ship building rules or the ship combat rules for D20 Future. But I think the damage system for Star Wars or the modified T20 version needs to used.

Over on the Citizens of the Imperium boards Thomas Low Jones started some threads about converted T20 to D20 Modern but got bogged down. I'd love to see the Game Mechanics get into the mix. I've been impressed on their products and they seem to have a good hand on the now old Star wars rules and D20 Modern.

I'm looking forward to the Solomani Ship .pdf that's coming out. I'm not much of a gearhead so I get my hands on T20 ship conversions from other Traveller systems rather fast :)

The "other conversions" I was thinking of were conversions from other games and genres -- namely the Wheel of Time d20, the first Star Wars d20, and even Call of Cthulu d20. All were ok d20 games and each one showed progressive improvement, but were all somewhat flawed*.

By contrast, the coming Star Wars Saga edition appears to be a truly kick-ass d20 game, addressing many of the shortcomings of its earlier incarnations.

*The CoC d20 hardcover is absolutely stunning and one of my favorite RPG books, but if I were to run a campaign tomorrow I would either use Erica Balsley's non-heroic d20 Modern rules or True20, rather than the classes, feats, and skills found there.
