Travelling DMs: What do you tote your game in?

they also have a back break easel back note book! Mine just wore out, and I had no idea where to find one, thanks!
What the frank is a "back break easel back note book"? I don't even know how to parse that.

Big plastic tub with handles and a lid.

I'll second that. Though I don't travel anymore, back in the days of 2e I foolishilly rotated the game site. I had 3 or 4 big 3-ring binders, my collection of 2e books (10+) and my dice. It fit nicely in one of the big Coleman coolers.

DSForgeworks

I carry a PDA. That's it.

The PDA has all my player's characters on it, monsters, dice roller, random generators, and the complete SRD for any rule questions that come up. It also does combat and spell duration tracking.

However, now that I have access to a video projector I will probably be adding that and a laptop to the mix as well.

My favorite is a milk crate. They are cheap (free), rugged and everything doesn't get banged up or smushed like in a backpack. It even has handles for convenient carrying. As an added bonus the crate can be used as a seat when waiting in line for badge pickup at the con.

EXACTLY. And, your standard RPG hardback book or 3-ring binder fits so neatly inside I'm tempted to think that EGG was really a dairy farmer.

Some of us are going to be disappointed if you don't bring some of those Magic Brownies to GenCon... ;)
Geez, guys, they're only magic 'cause we're playing D&D! Get your minds out of the '70s. :D

Eh, I can probably swing brownies for GenCon. The problem is that it's a looong drive...

I've got a big messenger bag that I got as a tchotchke from the ad agency where I work;

That killed me! I do the same thing. Mine is from FHM magazine. Which agency do you work at? What accounts? (sorry for the thread hi-jack).

I carry too much stuff when I DM:

1) The FHM bag with my 3 core books and a notepad plus pencils/pens plus one little thing of dice. It also doubles as my player-bag when I'm playing instead of DM'ing (but in that case I add the Dawnforge CS and Complete Warrior or else Oriental Adventures and Magic of Rokugan, depending on which game it is).
2) Another ad-agency tchotchke bag from Investor's Business Daily with my three-ring binder of campaign world notes and a bunch of miscellaneous notes, plus my version of Barsoom's "Swashbuckler Cards" (great idea, BTW!) and my wife's character notebook.
3) Laptop bag with laptop and stupid extension cord b/c the laptop battery sucks.
4) Little plastic case with Fiery Dragon counters, extra dice for players who forget, and markers for my dry-erase whiteboard and my battlemat, and a small little water bottle to use when wiping off the battlemat.

Then I also carry my dry-erase whiteboard and battlemat separately. When I'm packed up I look like I'm someone's servant carrying their stuff as they prepare to scale Mt. Everest or something.

My group pretty much makes fun of me as I wrangle all my gear in from the car!

Um, yes, yes we do.

It is a pretty amusing site though. He is laden down with at least 50 pounds of stuff, and it takes him about twenty minutes to get everything all set up. It is usually at my place, and I have 4 TV trays in addition to a small coffee table and the first night I thought he was going to take all of them!

Oh and it is not exactly a large house (by anyone's standards) which makes it all the more amusing!

IW is, however, doing a great job so I hope he doesn't change anything. If it takes 50 pounds of books to give us a great game, bring them!

Later,
Shay
