Wow...it's been so long since I've come here...anyway, glad to see the forums are doing well. I was wondering if I could bother some of the vets around here for a little help?

I'm cooking up a character for a future campaign where I'll be a player on, (if this thread is in the wrong forum I'll move it, just let me know) my idea for this character is that she'll be a treasure hunter. The kind that goes around looking for rare and unique artifacts etc, you know the drill. We use any book, following the 3.5 rules and provided that our DM has access to the same book naturally, from oriental adventures to the Complete series and of course the phbs.

Rogue+Wiz looks good, but since we should start his future campaign around level 5-7 as usual, I don't know just how useful that mix would be, although combining sneak attack with ray spells, even if they're weak in the beggining, looks rather promising.

So this is my question/challenge then. Since the theme is that of a treasure hunter, what would you guys suggest? I wanted her to have some combat skills as well since it's naturally important, but i'm not sure how to build the character.

Thanks in advance, and again, if this is misplaced, please let me know and I'll remake the thread wherever it should be.

would have xp ya...but im cut off for the 24 hr period... how lame......

anyway nice post...right place..

I think I might start him as an Expert, gives basic fighting... choice of skills.. then I like your mage - rogue,,, perhaps bard instead of rogue...different use of magic and the skills of the rogue. and then even a specialist mage. this is just off the cuff.. no deep thought or book delving or min maxing..

let us see the finished product.. I got another poster to do that and I wasn't disappointed... I got a fantastic npc out of it... which im going to repost soon.

Sure, thanks lordxaviar. I'll be posting a lvl 20 version of it since we're still doing the second campaign afterall and it'll be a while until I get to actually test this character properly. I'll only worry about skills, feats, stats and spells since I dunno what gear will be available, we have a tendency to brew our own gear and such xD

Thinking of going with rogue 7/ wiz 8/ spellwarp sniper 5 for the build

Replacement for the Arcane Trickster I had in mind before. I figure that the sniper's Sudden Ray Strike + Sneak Attack + Ray spell (such as fireball for example) might be one heck of a combo, no?

I can also leave a sketch build for rogue+wiz only if you want. Though I'll warn right now, I'm not that great at Min-Maxing xD

I'm sure it's in Complete Scoundrel, but you can google it too. Also, that build will be fine, but it'll take you a while to build everything up to where your headed.

yeah, thinking about raising wizard fast to get the 8 ranks on the requisite skills, get a lvl of sniper, then either max sniper first and then lvl the rest or lvl everything bit by bit

 I don't know what class the OP's character should have, but the poster themselves certainly took a few levels in Satirist, IYKWIM. (And as there are a lot of posters who seem to have missed it, here's an emphasis added version:

I would like to ask for your suggestions and hints on how to make a really good chara. Appraise, Knowledge Arcana and Spellcraft are must haves, so I was thinking of either making a Beguiler or a combo of Rogue+Wizard. The reason I'm not too keen on going with Beguiler is the mere fact that it'll be a second sequel to his campaigns. The character I'm rolling is my current character's daughter, and he's a Beguiler so...yeah ^^''

xD lol, nah, everyone was pretty helpful really. The rogue lvls give her the means to survive traps and such, as well as being that annoying one during the battle, wiz helps with identifying the artifacts and adds offensive power, the sniper is what she'll need to actually do some damage and be able to hit and run if the occasion asks for it.

I know, the responses were very kind and helpful. But it's D&D - isn't everyone meant to be saying, "I want to make a character who goes on adventures looking for treasure, and can handle themselves in a fight"? (If that's the edition critique going on, then I applaud the subtlety of the argument.)
