Treatment for a jerk player?

It would be easier to lull him into playing the character if the charisma was say 13, not being able to cast above 0 level spells comes up to fast. He might not even notice the painfully low charima for a few sessions if it was just a bit higher.

I'd say if he doesn't instantly ask WTF, make him play the character. I'm guessing his legacy weapon will end up having charisma boosts.

A few days ago, I posted something about a high-power campaign I planned on running, well, high-power for my ground anyway. Gestalt, 40-pt buy. (I changed the buy slightly, if any remember.) Also, as an idea from one of the replies, they also start with a Weapon of Legacy.

A friend of mine is a relatively new player to the group, and hasn't quite 'got down' the creation of a character yet. I tell him about the idea, and offer to help with the character creation, since it's a little different than normal. In reply, he simply says, "Yeah yeah, whatever. Make the character sheet." Now, that put me off a little, so I put my irritation into making a quite horrible character, if I do say so myself, :p Still holds possibility to work, but not for someone at 'his' level of experience.

Without further ado, The Character!

P.S. I will not actually make him use this, as entertaining as it would be. Comments on how to make it worse are appreciated, ;) But it's just to show him that telling me to "Make the character sheet," isn't quite what he wants...

I'd make him use it.

Sounds like your friend just wants to play, and doesn't want to deal with the hassle of learning your house rules. He was rather rude in doing it, but it's generally a really bad idea to repay annoyances with such passive-aggressive actions. I would suggest just asking him what sort of character he would like, creating a good and interesting character along those lines, and playing on. Or, tell your friend that you're his DM not his servant, and that he'll create his own damn character if he wants to play.

However, if this was intended as a joke, well, the character is pretty amusing. I would try to find some way to drop that Charisma by a point, though, as he's not totally useless just yet.

Our group had players that would do that sort of stuff in the past....

Now they wouldn't even consider it. We keep NATALA, THE BRYTHUNIAN SLAVE GIRL tacked to the wall for people who forget their character sheets. Yea, stopped irresponsible, uncaring players right off. It's like the kid in grade school who wets his pants and so he has to wear the "LOANER" pants (usually with flowers on them).

Using a 22 point buy..the only thing good about her is her appearance and ability to dance and please her master(s).

...and yes, she's been used..once.

Funny.

Yeah people telling me to make their character is a little off putting. So i started a new thing in my group. You invite someone you deal with their noobness and teach them. Asking me questions is ok, but im not going to sit for the hour or more it takes new guys to make a character.

Hehe, I like the ideas, and I presented him w/ the character the other night.

It took him a few minutes of wondering why his character was so horrible that he remembered what he said. :p So we did sit down and discuss a concept, so all that's left is to make a character sheet, which he said he'd do, but he'd probably call and ask for help, heh.

But I like the idea of having the character stuck on the wall in case someone forgets a character sheet. I might do that...

Thanks to everyone who assisted, and for the comments, etc. (hopefully) the player now understands what it means to make a character, and not have one made for him.

The longspear is far too practical a weapon. Give him a net or a whip (without any proficiency, of course). Also, Mage Hand might actually have some use - try Detect Poison instead.

Good points. I'll make those edits as soon as I can. I think they're is a legacy whip...hm...

Instead of a Half-Orc, make him into a midget Gnome with 2 wooden peg-legs and give him a cursed item of some kind.

That's just evil. Granted, I do like it...hm...But the Half-Orc was the only race I could find that best off-set the aging penalties/bonuses to make them as horrible as possible. I'll definitely take it into consideration, though.

That is kind of funny, but if a player says "yeah whatever" and wants you to make up stuff for him without even participating, I think I'd be talking to him about whether or not he really wants to play. Rolling up a character is part of that. If he's knew he may not understand the choices, but he needs to learn. If he's throwing up his hands, then either he feels railroaded or he's not interested at all. If it's the former, then a little time spent talking about the options would help. If it's the latter, then you can save yourselves some frustration by cutting to the chase now.

I can understand why some people wouldn't want to spend time making their character...especially if they are new to the game.

After you've toyed around with him with this pathetic character, ask him what he wants and maybe you can just quickly put any old build together. Or you can post the request on Enworld and there's plenty of people that would love to create the PC for you.

Just ask the guy, "What type of adventurer do you want to play and what would he be fighting with?" If he says he wants to be a big warrior like Conan, then make a fighter or barbarian with lots of strength. If he says he wants to cast spells, as if he wants to be a religious caster or a wizard type. If he says something about having pets fight, make a ranger or druid. If he wants to steal stuff, it's a rogue. Then just put together whatever build you want.

I'll bet anything that he'll be happy with anything you do. If he says he wants to fight with 2-swords, you could give him blind fighting and he'll take 2-weapon penalties but he'd probably think it's cool that he can fight good without seeing. He won't even pay attention to the attack scores being lower than they could be.

Yeah, we've got it all talked over now, so it's all good. Essentially, since I'm the DM and hold all power in my hand, I've modified some stuff slightly. Another of the characters wanted to play a Half-Dragon, which I wasn't too keen on, especially given the LA. So I took the Dragon Disciple from the DMG, modified it slightly so that the 10th level isn't so loaded, and presented that as his 'racial class.'

Onyx, the newbish player, saw this and wanted something cool too. After tossing concepts back and forth, he decided on half-celestial. (I can already see the over-poweredness coming...sigh). So I just used my pre-created Half-Dragon/Dragon Disciple Template and statted up the 'racial class' that way.

Then he wanted a 'quick and agile fighter,' so we're using a Swashbuckler -> Duelist type. He seems happy, I feel better, and everything's looking good. Although with the current trend of things, (A half-celestial, a half-dragon, a Vampire spawn from LM) the Fighter//Knight character might be underpowered, but that can be solved with a quick talk.

Thanks to everyone for their help! :D
