Trip question

Squidmaster

First Post
Can a character attempt a trip with a weapon that does not specifically state that it can be used for trip attempts? The explanation of the trip maneuver in the combat section would seem to indicate that anything can be used, but the individual weapon descriptions in the equipment section explicitly state if a weapon can be used for trips. Then again, monk's clearly can trip without a weapon at all. Very confusing. I'm beginning to think that the weapon descriptions indicate which weapons can be dropped to avoid the counter-trip, but I don't really have anything to confirm this. Thanks for your help everybody.

No. Weapons aren't used to trip unless the weapon says it can be used.

You trip with your own body, so no tripping with Long Spears, Lances, or crossbows.

Far as I can tell them descriptions are just sorta hit or miss. Some weapons say they can be used with Weapon Finesse others don't even though they are eligible. 'Sides, I gotta figger if there wuz a restriction on whut ya kin trip wit, they woulda said somethin' under the trip description.

Ther only weapons that state that they can be used with Weapon Finesse are those it wouldn't otherwise apply to - shortswords are finessable for humans by virtue of their size, while rapiers have the special ability to be finessed for a human despite their size.
