Tripping with a halberd

According to the PHB a trip attack is essentially a melee touch attack. One of my players uses a halberd and plans to regularly use the tripping ability it has. He was curious if the enhancement bonuses of the weapon would apply to the trip, since he is using the weapon for the trip and not just his body. I really couldnt respond to him for sure either way. It seems to sort of make sense that since he is using the weapon that some of its power should apply. However that seems like it could be alittle overpowered. Can anyone out there answer this for sure without me having to make a judgement call?

It's an attack roll, so all modifiers apply with it. A magic halberd will add it's bonus to the trip.

The halberd's bonus would only apply to the melee touch attack necessary to initiate the Trip attempt. The Trip attempt is a simple Strength check.
