Trog Stench DC?

The Fort save DC for a Troglodyte's stench is DC 13. It is Con-based and the Trog has a +2 Con modifier. Is the save DC correct or should it be DC 12?

I always thought the base save was 10 plus the modifier. For trogs, it looks like the base DC is 11 plus modifier.

Is this correct?

Saves vs monster abilities are actually 10 + 1/2 creature's HD + relevant ability modifier.

So a troglodytes DC of 13 is correct if it has 2-3 HD. Have not got MM with me, but I believe they are 2HD. In this case the DC 13 would be correct.

Trogs have two racial hit dice. Using the formula above, that would be d20+1(Hit Dice)+2(Con bonus) for a DC 13 Fortitude save to resist their Stench ability.

Thanks. That makes sense.

Just to be clear, total HD is used and not just racial HD, correct? The MM refers to HD. So a 2-HD creature with 5 class levels would be calculating the special attack DC based off 7-HD right?

No. Just racial hit dice.

The MM refers to Racial Hit Dice in the overview of the Stat Block:

Special Attacks and Special Qualities
Many creatures have unusual abilities. A monster entry breaks these abilities into special attacks and special qualities. The latter category includes defenses, vulnerabilities, and other special abilities that are not modes of attack. A special ability is either extraordinary (Ex), spell-like (Sp), or supernatural (Su). Additional information (when needed) is provided in the creature’s descriptive text.

When a special ability allows a saving throw, the kind of save and the save DC is noted in the descriptive text. Most saving throws against special abilities have DCs calculated as follows: 10 + 1/2 the attacker’s racial Hit Dice + the relevant ability modifier. The save DC is given in the creature’s description along with the ability on which the DC is based.

If you look at sample NPCs - for example, in Savage Species - you'll see that class hit dice don't change these DCs.

Suppose a level 18 human wizard, who carries no items, shapechanges into Trog form. What would be the save DC against the stench, 12 or 13?
