Turing Point PbP (Closed Game)

I shoot Riko an incredulous look. Even if that nutcase ain't comin' back here, I ain't about to start spreading bills and boom and flake out all over a diner counter. I mean, sh-t Grandbanks, I know there's no such thing as bad publicity and all, but there's attention and then there's attention.

I take an overlong stare at the packets of bills, and glance at my picked-clean plate, and the unsold boom under my stool. I let out a small sigh.

Yeah let's get this sh-t over to your place. Quick-like.

I want that money. Want it pretty bad, but Daniel and Riko have got too excited or something and ain't bein careful.

So we got a case full up with expensive sh-t belongs to a crazy with a gun that we think is long gone, an we got notes in the case sayin that our crazy thinks somebody's after him, and he ain't been gone ten minutes and you both wanna take this sh-t back to Riko's?

How many Asian girls into Nets an flake you think there are in the Stilts? How many black guys named Daniel? And there's only two people work at Eddie's. If that guy wants his sh-t back, or somebody catches up with him and wants to know where he left this sh-t, anybody could find us real easy just askin around.

Maybe we oughta give it a couplea days, leave it here behind the counter so somebody nasty comes lookin for it, they can get it without havin to find our places, kill us, you know? An if it stays quiet, we can divvy. All I wants a share of the cash. I got no contacts for the other stuff.

I stop to let that sink in for a bit, and I'm thinkin they don't look convinced.

I poke around a little bit more to see if there's anything else interesting tucked away, and give the guns a closer look to appraise their value.

As you poke around the case, nothing of further interest turns up. Looking at the brace of pistols you guess they might be worth a fair bit but they're probably too easy to trace since they look like BACA issue. A good half of the ammunition catches your eye though, caseless armor piercing rounds, thats pretty heavy stuff and you didn't realize jo-blow BACA cop was carrying a pistol around that could spit that sh-t out. Next thing you know and they'll have exploding rounds too. F-ck the police.

Come on Grandbanks, you really think that guy just accidentally left all this sh-t here? Holding onto the stuff at least until the end of the day is probably a good idea, but let's at least get it out of the middle of the street. I just suggested my place because I want to checkout some of this stuff. He's got an avatar ID written down that might be able to shed some light on this guy if I get on the Net. The other option is you guys hang out down here with the stuff while I run to my apartment. Honestly I just want the flake and maybe one of the guns if you guys don't want them. You guys can take most of the cash.

I pause for a moment. I sure as hell try to stay out of any sh-t going on that has anything to do with flake. But oh, holy sh-t could I use that money. Those guns ought to pull in something nice too.

Riko's funny. All these people getting all worked up over a big soap opera. People get killed, get over it. Well, she's willing to give up her hold on that cash, I won't make a big deal out of it.

One thing's for damn sure - Grandbanks may not have the most popular joint in the Stilts, but sooner or later somebody's bound to wander in for some 'a this excuse for coffee. I wink at Grandbanks - he knows I guzzle his joe like I'm dying of thirst. So we better get it the hell off this bar.

Ok so resurrection successfully cast. This is all largely due to Mike so you may thank him. I'm only missing a few posts I think. Hopefully I'll get it all back up in the next two days. And 1...2...3...VOILA!!!!

Grandbanks
How bout Riko you take those papers you got there and find out whatever you're tryin to find out, and me an Daniel stay here with the case under the bar, outta sight, in case our friend comes back.

Daniel and Riko look bout as sh-tty as they did when they came in, just with a shine of excitement on top, and Daniel's got a little nervous on top of that.

I put both hands on the case, stuffing my left fingers between the sides so it don't try to close on me, and start to lift it down to the floor behind the bar.

Daniel, if you wanna go to your place and sleep off last night, it's cool, but I know if I only knew me as well as you do, I wouldn't be leaving me with this much cash. So no hard feelings if you wanna stay and keep an eye on me.

---
Riko
Alright, just don't be in trouble when I get back. Well, this is already trouble... just the good kind some people call opportunity.

Most of the papers I won't be forgetting anytime soon, but I do take the avatar ID and hop off the barstool making a quick walk towards my apartment.

When I get to my building I take steps three at a time on the way up the long staircase to my apartment. My lock has been broken for weeks, but I hadn't thought much about fixing it until now. I open the door, letting the strained hum of electronics out into the hallway for a
moment before closing it behind me.

---
Daniel
It's cool, Grandbanks. Money showed up in your diner, anyway. I drain the last dregs of coffee from my cup, and slap a crumpled bill on the counter. Like you said, I have got to go CRASH. Thanks for the fish. I'll see
you.

For Grandbanks...

Eddie's is once more your own as Daniel slips off to get his rest. The briefcase and its worrisome contents are out of sight tucked beneath cans of cooking oil, an old rag wedged in the hinge to keep it from latching. Riko said it'd be a few hours before she'd have anything all you can do is wait now. You settle back into your daily routine, hoping some business will come your way and take your thoughts away from that briefcase and that man.

For Daniel...

It's a short ride to the comfort of home. You walk your bike in the front door chaining it up just inside. The shotguns get tucked away beneath you bed in a compartment hidden in the floor boards. You check your pagers, no messages...no biz. You set an alarm for 10 AM, Riko better have her answers by then or you might smack her for the lost sleep. As you curl up on your foam mattress you settle into uneasy dreams of cash, guns, and cross-dressers .

For Riko...

Your hands shake as you get your deck ready to drop into the Net. You eye your door wishing you hand something more than a half empty file cabinet to serve as a lock. You slip the decks gloves and goggles on, rest the keyboard on your knees, take a deep breathe and plunge in.

---
OCC: Riko
I get increasingly anxious as I try to track down information and it becomes clear I don't have the means to dig any further. I start looking into the hoops I'd have to jump through to get a serious deck and the mods for it. I've been stuck like this plenty of times before, but never even dreamed I'd have the money to go further. My pulse must be through the roof right now, I need to calm down and relax. While I'm looking into it I keep an eye out for anyone I know who might be able to run this avatar ID search for me... I'm hesitant to give it out, but I might to someone I trust.

---
Grandbanks
I settle down on a stool with my novel, waitin for business, sippin a cold beer. Tastes good, and good for nerves. I'm hopin there's nothing to freak out about, but I keep lookin up from my book out the front, more often than if I was just checkin for customers. Keep catchin myself drummin my knuckles on the copper bar top.

This sucks.

---

All in all the rest of the morning at Eddie's is looking to be a lot less exciting...which ain't a bad thing. A few of the regulars start to drift in by 8:30, mostly boatsmen and 'swains that make their living off the Bay. Soon the griddle is popping and sizzling with all the eggs and silver dollars you're making. You'll turn a good profit even if you can't keep a share of cash thats in the case. By twenty to ten the morning rush is over, most of your patrons wander off on their own errands or to their beds. You settle down on your stool once more sipping a fresh cup. Even with how busy you'd been you kept an eye on the crowd in the street watching for that crazy guy but he's just disappeared it seems.

---

For Riko...
Spoiler:
[sblock]Your search on the Net's been a mixed bag. Not as useful as you wanted it to be, but at least you got a few leads and an idea of how to keep moving forward. That is if you really want to do that. Doing much more is going to put you into whatever the man with the case is in, to a certain degree. You'll need some of the money out of the case to get a better deck (something that you're eager to do) and to get the 'softs you'll need to track the avatar. Angel, who the f*** uses an avatar like that, has to be millions of them. Getting the word on the data havens looks like it'll be even harder...but if you can it might prove to be the most rewarding part of this whole venture. Now if only you can convince the other two to split the cash with you. The clock reads 9:49, its a bit early but you could stand another cup of coffee before you fall down dead asleep. You grab your and head out the door, hoping the crazy dude is still MIA and that case is still hiding under Grandbanks bar.[/sblock]

I'll be breaking up the reposts for ease of reading. Here's the next batch...man rereading this really reminds me how much I was enjoying all this.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Riko
I show up back at Eddie's right before 10:00 like we'd planned and duck under the awning, taking a seat and looking up at Grandbanks. So, can I get a free coffee or did our friend return and grab his loot?

When Daniel shows up I lean over to both of them while Grandbanks pours my coffee, I found some pretty interesting stuff... but I'm going to need to buy some better equipment to really figure this out. I've got a hunch that's probably why our friend left the suitcase here in the first place. He knew we'd be needing it to do this.

---

For Riko again...
Spoiler:
[sblock]Ok so your searches for leads on a new deck and some 'softs coulda been better but you got leads. You talked to a buddy of yours on the Net, thats from the FAZs too and he said he'd put in a word with his cousin who does some business on the other side of the Corr. A good days trip to talk to this guy but the prices you were given weren't outrageous so you think it might be worth taking the trip. Finding the 'softs was a bit harder. Nobody likes to talk too much or too freely about the better hunter programs out there let alone the 'softs that'll let you crack avatar shells. You hit up a few messageboards, and lounged in some rooms and picked up enough hints to point you in the direction of some guy named Andrius Suk. He supposedly runs around the FZAs around the DC Corr area. In and out of the trendier LAN* bars and digital clubs. Its not the best of leads but a couple of nights work by either you or Daniel could probably get you this guys ear.

*LAN is of course just a throw back name to the days when LANs actually were relevant in the world now its just style of bar catering to the more eccentric computer geeks and hackers out there. Lots of privacy, gang bangers, and hustlers.
[/sblock]

For the other two...

Spoiler:
[sblock]I felt that Riko seemed to be getting a tad too many of these spoiler blocks and that you might be feeling left out. So here's your very own spoiler block :)[/sblock]

---
Daniel
A minute after ten, I walk back into Eddie's and pull off my sunglasses. My eyes scan the bar and adjust for a moment, and focus in on Grandbanks and Riko. I nod to the two of them, and slide onto a stool. Good, nobody else here.

So, did the guy come back at all?
I turn to Riko. And, did you find out anything interesting?

---
Riko
I turn to Daniel when he asks, and take a second thinking how to reword this for someone who doesn't spend much time on the Net. Well, for a long time people have suspected these places called Data Havens are hidden on the Net. It's probably what all the big tech companies are using to hide and secure their data. Nobody I know has ever seen one, but there are lots of rumors. I don't know how any of this relates to Joilette... The problem I'm having is that I can't track down this avatar ID that was in the briefcase without a better deck. I've got someone out on the otherside of the Corr, about a day away, who might be able to help me out.
I glance between Daniel and Grandbanks, I know you guys might not be interested. I mean if you want we can split this up and head our seperate ways. I'm definitely going to track this down as far as I can though.

Grandbanks
Last couplea hours weren't so great, tryin to flip flapjacks while wonderin if that rich boy was tryin to set us up for somethin, or if he's just dead and the bastards that killed him are gonna be looking for this case here. Got weeded around 9, and some jerk only comes in once a month was cryin to me bout how his eggs weren't wet enough, why no chicken eggs, i need more sugar... And the whole time I'm thinkin I don't need your two bills, assh-ole, I got more cash than you ever seen right next to your wee danglin feet, an you are makin me think way too much about dumpin a half-cup of flake in your coffee.

Not the salesman's attitude today. Just got out of the weeds maybe 10 minutes ago, and I'm draggin hard on my cigarette, and glad there's only these two in here now, even if Riko is kind of a nutjob.

Tell ya what, Riko... you keep makin this Net stuff sound almost like a story that makes sense, I'll be interested enough to see where it goes. You said you didn't care for cash, an I'd be impressed you could do that much flake in your lifetime. Daniel, you got the contacts to run some of this flake? Could get Riko that deck or whatever sh-it she needs.

I'm lookin kind of expectant at Riko and Daniel, wonderin where this is gonna go.

Sh-t. Sorry, guys. You eatin' again? Coffee?

---
Riko
Ah well, about the money... I might have spoken a little too soon. I don't have much stuff I want to buy, but that deck will cost some and it might be safer to use the money we've got now than to bring attention to ourselves running that much flake. Besides, if you guys want to come along on the trip we don't need to split up the money now... we can just hold onto it together and split it up later. To be honest I'd rather have a couple boys with me anyway so nobody tries pushing me around. I let myself look a little hopeful and lean my elbows up on the counter. What do you think?

I blink for a second and almost let some coffee go down the wrong pipe. Is Riko hitting on Grandbanks? And me? Crazy girl. I laugh a little. Yeah I figured you couldn't a been too serious about not caring about all that money, Riko. Got yourself a little excited about this sh-t on the nets. But yeah, even if running flake was my style - and I ain't liking the idea of touching that much anyway - there's enough creds here to buy what-e-ver you need without worrying about unloading. I look a little seriously at Riko. You really want us to go with you to go buy this thing? . I think for a second. Not sure I've got anything better to do, and I'm actually starting to get a little curious about this whole mess, I mean it is pretty damn crazy, but what do I need to trek over to the other side of the Corr for?

Oh, and uh, no thanks on the food Grandbanks, I'm cool.

---
Grandbanks
Riko's totally into me. She's leanin up on the bar showin the tops of her t!ts. Weird. Nice though. I'm tryin to get a look without being obvious, not cranin my neck or nothin, but girls are good at noticin that kind of stuff. Like psychics.

I don't mind goin. Eddie runs this place at night anyways. But how much money you talkin about, Riko?

---
Riko
I smile a little as both the boys express some interest. Yeah I would! I can take care of myself alright, but it isn't so easy when you don't know anyone around ya? Besides you guys have got to have something you want with all this cash you can't buy out here in the Stilts right?

Grandbanks speaks up, "I don't mind goin. Eddie runs this place at night anyways. But how much money you talkin about, Riko?"

Did you see how much was in the briefcase? I glance around realizing I was getting a little too excited and loud, so I lean a bit closer and whisper, besides Grandbanks looked like he might have been checking me out earlier. There's got to be 100,000 dollars in each stack. There's no way it'd be more than that. Maybe right around there once I get some of the mods and softs I'll need.

---
Daniel
Yeah, you're right that there's got to something I could pick up out there myself. It'd be rough even trying to decently unload this kind of money around here. I'm game.

---
Riko
I grin and hop up off the stool, Great! Look I'll go get a bag or something from my place to put this stuff in so we don't have to carry that briefcase around about to lock. Once Grandbank's is done we can head out. Anything else we need to do in the meantime?

---
Grandbanks
Riko, you sure your guy will take cash? We might have to find a guy to change some of this money before we go tryin to spend it in the Corr.

I splay both my hands on the cold copper top and lean toward the other two, kinda lookin down at them sittin there.

If anybody's got guns ain't as easy to trace as those two (I nod jerk my chin toward the case at my feet), might want to bring them too. Just in case.

I grin. An I think we oughtta meet here right before headin out an have a couplea beers and some food. Because if you're gonna go lookin for trouble, you oughtta do it full of crabcakes, right?
