TV-Fringe--Season Premiere 9/2008

I just watched it last night (was DVR'd) and thought it was pretty good.

Was anyone else extremely annoyed/distracted by the large floating letters? The part where they looked up from under the "B" in Iraq seemed entirely too much. Seems like they were just trying to show off their CGI talents with that.

I came into the show willing to suspend my disbelief about the pseudoscience, so that didn't bother me at all.

And in case somebody's reading this who hasn't seen it yet:
[sblock]As soon as they had that moment before they started tossing the storage units where she admitted that she loved him too I turned to my boyfriend and said, "How much you wanna bet he dies before the end of the episode?" That part was kinda predictable. There's no way you can start this kind of TV show where the lead is already in a successful relationship with someone unless something happens to that someone. ;)[/sblock]

This show really reminded me of X-Files. I wasn't an X-Files fan, never cared for the show, but I do know it was a good show, I just wasn't into it.

“You’re telling me my father was Dr. Frankenstien?”

He prefers Dr. Frahkensteen.

The giant letters frightened me more than the plot elements. That said, it was fun, which is all you can really ask of this kind of program.

I wonder if they know they are answering to Mr. Abbadon?

Not as good at it could be, but shall continue watching it. Since well, got to love crazy mega-corporations and I always adore pseudo-science.

One thing I am wondering about though, the various blue symbols shown throughout the show. One of them showed up at the ending too... I am wondering if each of them is a sign for a major pseudo-science theme.

For those who haven't seen the ending:

[sblock]Like the regeneration-ward or whatever had the blue-leaf. So could the leaf stand for medical/regenerative pseudo-science?[/sblock]

These are cool. Wonder if they were inspired by the fact that Heroes also likes to put its episode and act titles into the "scenery"?

I dunno... I had no problem with the way Heroes did it, but the way Fringe did it bothered me. Maybe because it happened so often in Fringe. And really, the time in Iraq when they showed the letters from underneath as well, I thought that was unnecessary. It breaks you out of the story because you're distracted by the floating letters in the sky that you KNOW aren't there.

Saw the repeat last night. X-files redo is the impression I walked away with. Found some elements forced but over all not a bad show, with all Abrams shows it is season two that suck.
