TV shows and their spinoffs

That's pretty amazing. :) I'd like to see a flowchart, myself.
Interesting article, but not entirely accurate. Some of the "crossovers" cited were references to actors rather than the actual characters (i.e. Knightrider didn't actually cross with Star Trek, only James Doohan).

The Brady Bunch --> The Brady Bunch Hour (variety show), The Bradys (hour long drama)

Touched by an Angel -->Promised Land

Josie and the Pussycats --> Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space

The Wacky Racers --> The Perils of Penelope Pitstop, Dick Dastardly & Mutley

As for Phyllis, I'm very scared that I can actually remember some of the theme song to that one. OK, I just looked it up, and I was only about 60% right, but here's part of the lyrics:

Who makes the warning bells on the cable cars play "The Gang's All Here"?
Phyllis; Phyllis.

Phyllis; Phyllis; Phyllis....
It sure isn't you!

That last line still makes me laugh!

Re: Re: TV shows and their spinoffs

Gosh, how could I forget:

B.J. and the Bear --> The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. --> The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.

I can't believe no one's mentioned:

Animaniacs ----> Pinky and the Brain

A case could be made for:

Mad About You ----> Friends

I've got a question. What do you think is the best spinoff of an established show? Frasier's had some good moments, and a lot of people I know who watch it have completely forgotten it spun off of Cheers (Watch an old Cheers episode - it's kind of jarring). But I think this season that Angel really surpassed Buffy and got out of its shadow. If it's as good this coming season, it could be the best spinoff ever IMHO.

Maybe not technically but...

Batman TAS => Gotham Knights [=> Batman Beyond => The Zeta Project], Superman TAS [=> Justice League => Teen Titans].

Plus, Static Shock has crossed over with both BTAS and JL.

Howzat? I've never watched Mad About You for any stretch of time. What Friends character(s) were originally on that show?

Cheers > Frasier is classic. One great show spawning an equally great show. Kinda rare. Buffy > Angel is getting there. We need more seasons of Angel before I can really tell. 4 seasons isn't enough especially when Cheers and Frasier have done it for ten (or more) years each.

Ursula, Phoebe's sister.
She was on there before Friends aired? That's kinda funny. :)

* quickly checks imdb.com * Interesting, I say.

Was she a big character? And does that really constitute a spinoff? The dates are sooo close...

Well, originally Phoebe was supposed to be Ursula, but they soon
realized that they wanted someone a bit nicer (and uh... less slutty)
on Friends (y'know, "Friends" an' all) so they decided to create
Phoebe instead.

I don't know if it fits as a spin-off, but the two shows definately
share a universe. I'd put this in the same camp as the whole
'Detective Munch' thing.
