Spoilers TV Shows with Great Endings

...and, and he had no problem banging Inara's friend during the series. I think it was a reaction Mal had to being lets say more rural, more rough around the edges, and Inara's fancy airs puts him on tilt. Its an act mostly to keep distance so he doesnt defecate where he eats as the saying goes.
Or, it's the old Toxic Masculinity thing of a man being able to "sow his wild oats", but his woman must be chaste. With what we now know about Whedon, that's as good a bet as any.

Edit - There's a reunion panel show that they did, in which the cast spoke about where their characters' arcs were headed. What they had planned for Inara was... not good.

Most Korean dramas do this pretty well because they’re planned as one season stories and the writers are very clear about the premise and the ending. They can be a bit iffy about the middle, especially if the network wants more episodes. Netflix is actually very good at not doing this.

Good examples of well-delivered endings include:

- Sky Castle: An excellent conclusion for all the characters and their themes. Almost all the main characters have had significant development and a hell of a journey in some cases. Not all happy endings by any means, but all well considered.

- The Greatest Love: Perfect ending and a beautiful reversal of the two protagonists’ positions.

- Crash Landing on You and Vincenzo are more workmanlike (and the latter is unexpectedly gory) but both great for the main characters.

I've started a couple of K Dramas (can we call them K Dramas? Like with K Pop?) but they've been on hold for a while because I've been so tired the last year or so that I haven't had it in me to read subtitles.

But I think it's time to get back to them. One in particular I was enjoying was, IIRC, The Night Scholar.

I also found the end of Community to pretty poignant. But I wonder if that was because it was really well done. Or because I was heavily invested in the show. I feel the same way about Superstore.

Maybe I'm just splitting hairs.
Given that I was heavily invested in the show because it was really well done (excluding most of season four, of course), I’m not sure there’s a difference.

And yet it gave women agency over their own bodies. While Mal had convinced himself that it was about not liking people having to literally sell themselves to survive, it was more likely just his own jealousy.
A very plausible explanation, it could very well have been Mal's jealousy, I completely agree. it is just not how I remember it, :) but as I said it was a long time ago since I last watched it. :)

I always felt the hate that season four got seemed more about the meta issues than the quality of the episodes. They weren't the best in the series run, but there were a number of very solid ones, I thought.

Yes, because his frame of reference for how women should behave was entirely based on his needs/wants. You can't call a woman a "whore" as he does repeatedly throughout the series without also examining their material needs (Well, you can but that casts you as the villain.) Your framing of this ("he doesn’t naughty word where he eats") makes it pretty clear how you feel about the people involved.

Sex as defecation, really? Gross.
