D&D 5E Two New D&D Books Revealed: Feywild & Strixhaven Mage School

Amazon has revealed the next two D&D hardcovers! The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is a feywild adventure due in September, and Curriculum of Chaos is a Magic: the Gathering setting of Strixhaven, which looks like a Harry Potter-esque mage school, set for November.

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is D&D's next big adventure storyline that brings the wicked whimsy of the Feywild to fifth edition for the first time.

The recent Unearthed Arcana, Folk of the Feywild, contained the fairy, hobgoblin of the Feywild, owlfolk, and rabbitfolk. UA is usually a good preview of what's in upcoming D&D books.

Curriculum of Chaos is an upcoming D&D release set in the Magic: The Gathering world of Strixhaven -- a brand new MtG set only just launched.

Strixhaven is a school of mages on the plane of Arcavios, an elite university with five rival colleges founded by dragons: Silverquill (eloquence), Prismari (elemental arts), Witherbloom (life and death), Lorehold (archaeomancy), and Quandrix (numeromancy). I've gone over Strixhaven's creature types, only the Owlfolk fits Strixhaven.

But the Strixhaven set has no Rabbitfolk, Fairies, or Hobgoblins (it barely has Goblins, who while having no creature card, are depicted on Rejected).

I don't think we actually got a Strixhaven UA yet at all, it's not supposed to be release till November! I think the Feywild races were extended for Witchlight, although the Owlfolk will likely make a second appearance in Strixhaven. The Strixhaven UA is likely still coming.

Magic the Gathering does have Rabbitfolk, Goblins and Fairies. Just because we didn't get a Rabbit in Strixhavem cards doesn't mean they won't be in the book. There were a million anthropomorphic animals in Strixhaven, and I would wager there are rules for playing a wider variety of options.

Nope, look at the UA James Wyatt leading on, it's the Draconic Options one, that fits FR lore well, but has nothing to do with Strixhaven lore. Strixhaven's Founder Dragons are very different from Metallic, Chromatic, and Gem Dragons. Strixhaven has no Kobolds. Of course it also has no Rabbitfolk, Fairies, or Hobgoblins. It occurs to me that aside from Owlfolk (which might do double duty for Witchlight and Strixhaven) we might not have gotten a Strixhaven UA yet at all, it's not supposed to be out till November!

He could easily have written the bulk of the non-mechanical text for the book and leave the races to other people and contribute to the tested content of a different book

And yeah folks were lead to believe we were getting 2 to 3 classic settings this year.

It's an official release by WotC. Combined with the Art of Zendilar vook, it is a pretty complete campaign setting. James Wyatt has said that any Magic setting that got the Planeshift treatment isn't likely taking to be getting a full book for 5E.

Actually it's unofficial, it's something James Wyatt and his daughter did on their own time, unpaved, with WotC's permission. It's popularity lead to official MtG setting books, Ravnica, Theros, and now Strixhaven.

I hope the Feywild book doesn't have a large section detailing a city in the Forgotten Realms like Descent into Avernus did.

If the "folk of the feywild" stuff is in the adventure, it suggests the PCs can start as fairies. Which suggests it's not "mostly FR with a bit of Feywild at the end",
