Two questions regarding dragons

Well, that depends on whether it's a kobold horde, an orc horde or a barbarian horde ;)
The Silver Horde, of course. :)

He might be too young to mate with another dragon yet, but he might have a short dalliance with a humanoid or something, have fathered a couple of half-dragons, who stick around. Kobolds are also a good choice for dragons, cause they always brag about their dragon ancestry.

Given that Young Adult Red Dragons are Huge cannot usually change shape, I have to wonder how that poor kobold survived the impregnation process.

If there are half-dragons around, you might want to make sure there's something in the lair that can explain it, such as a wand of Polymorph or something. :)

The half-dragons wouldn't necessarily be kobolds. The kobolds are just his mooks. Fire giant might be OK. (or he has used magic to polymorph).

A young adult Red could easily have mated by then; Reds usually have to fend for themselves by the time they're Juvenile (kids = eventual competition, but reds have just enough paternal instinct not to kill their offspring). Being chaotic evil powerhouses, Red courtship probably amounts to an older dragon informing a younger dragon "become my consort or die."

Actually, if the PCs are strong enough, having them deal with a mated pair could be very interesting. And painful.

Do they know the dragons is red? Nothing like a red dragon always casting change self whenever it leaves the lair, goign with just a simple color change to white...

"Guys... a white dragon, lets bring lots of fire spells to hurt it..."

Simple colour changes != so good though, since dragons aren't identical apart from the colour - they each have distinctive appearances. Not that peasants will be hanging around to check out the details though, but it could give useful info to patient PC's who are willing to do some extra investigative work.

Cheers

I think a Disguise Self or Alter self should be able to change the other stuff as well?

"You make yourself—including clothing, armor, weapons, and equipment—look different. You can seem 1 foot shorter or taller, thin, fat, or in between. You cannot change your body type. Otherwise, the extent of the apparent change is up to you. You could add or obscure a minor feature or look like an entirely different person."

If a seven foot tall bald, overweight half-orc with a black father from Waterdeep wearing peasant robes can change to look like a 6 ft tall pure-blood anorexic Shou with a long ponytail and wearing royal finery, the cosmetic changes to make one dragon look like another should be relatively easy.

Besides, what group has ever thought, "Ok, let's make sure this white dragon is really a white dragon."

I agree, with my group it's mostly like:
"We have to go up against a dragon? We're going to die, you know."
"Quiet, we have to save the princess and avert a war."
"But it's a DRAGON, might as well start re-rolling now."
"Think of the hoard. We'll be rich"
"Yeah, he's right."
"Woot, 18, 16, eh, 11 - not so good, another 18!"
"Would you stop being so pessimistic?"
"Who's being pessimistic, my next character's got two 18s allready. Bring it on!"
