Two things that I haven't seen mentioned on 4th edition

I was actually hoping for them to get rid of +3 longswords and +4 chainmail... give them something more substantial. Give characters a reason to KEEP their weapons. I'd love the Weapons of Legacy rules (or something similar) be used so people don't toss the weapon they've been using for so long away because a new one has one more plus.

I kind of get the feeling they might try something like this... Not sure though.

These are a couple of things I heard from designers (Rich Baker and James Wyatt) at GenCon that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere yet.

James Wyatt's secret was +6 wands (whatever that will mean)

Saves are being replaced with Defense (Fort, Will, and Ref). This will be a number that the attacker has to roll for his spell or attack to have full damage. (I think this is in the Star Wars Saga rules)

Prestige classes will be easier to qualify for.

Templates are still in the game, but are different then they are now.

Just a question, while we're at it...any mention of how AC is handled ? Has it been replaced with reflex defense as in SWSE or is it still in? Any mention of class/level based defense bonuses ( I hate how trained fighters never learn how to dodge or parry a blow...)?
Thanks in advance :)

If it gave you simply a +6 bonus, that would be an essential item again and we are promised those will be no more.

I don't think anybody said that. There will be fewer. So you might still "need" a magic weapon or armor, but you won't need a belt of giant strength or wand of cure light wounds to be effective. You know, hypothetically.

Monsters are still in development. Template theory, however, is that the template changes few to no numeric values in a monster (including level), instead changing it to fit the intended template shtick.

Thank you for addressing this, Chris!

So, the general idea would be: Fiendish Template = Fluff text/suggestions on how the monster's appearance would change + a couple few fiendish related abilities/powers?

As far as what was said it sounded like AC was still around in some capacity (the dragon in the Design and Development: monsters article has an AC of 49). But the specifics are still a mystery. One of the big comments I kept hearing was that anything they worked on in the last two years was in some way influenced by 4th edition. Complete Scoundrel came up at some point although James Wyatt wouldn't say what was influenced.
