Two-Weapon fighting

if a ranger takes the two-weapon style does it let him have 2 attacks as a standard action or only 1 attack. The feat allows you to have a second attack with your off hand. so i would says yes i would get 2 attacks but my DM says i only get 1. i understand that i would get 1 attack instead of 2 for AoO.

Only 1 attack as a standard action. You can only use two-weapon fighting as part of a full attack action, just like Rapid Shot.

This is true, but it could be more clearly spelled out IMO. You only get one attack because you only ever get one attack unless you take the Full Attack action, and TWF doesn't specifically say it is an exception.

EDIT:Rapid Shot, OTOH, specifies a full attack action in the feat description, which is possibly redundant but much clearer.

I believe that there is one in the Complete Adventurer which allows an attack with each weapon as a standard action. It works because it (presumably, I don't have CAdv yet) specifically mentions working as a standard action. There is also a feat in the Miniatures Handbook that allows it on an AoO.

Much cleared, thank you! The feat in Complete Adventurer is called Dual Strike, and it's similar to an ability the Tempest Prestige class gets.

Well, you don't need TWF to fight with two weapons; it just reduces the penalties. The general rules for fighting with two weapons are in the combat section, where it states quite clearly that you need to make a full attack to get your extra strikes. This is a very different situation from the Rapid Shot feat ... Now, for the rest of the feats in the chain (Improved TWF, etc.) you may have a point. Or maybe not ...
