Two Weapon Rend

I don't really have my ELH on hand, so I may be completely off here. But does the feat Two Weapon Rend work with a double weapon?

If it does, does anyone think thats a little silly?

If it doesn't, does anyone think that its a little unbalancing (in the favor or the two weapon users?) Of course, since double weapons are normally weaker that just using two weapons, that would be keeping in line with regular game play.

It doesn't, and yes it would be silly. As for balance, who cares? Nobody uses double weapons anyway. They aren't incredibly less powerful than using two weapons though, so I don't know why people don't.

Poo on you, I use double weapons.

It can easily be a large weapon on charges, AO's, disarms, etc. If you use it with TWF, you'd still get it as double handed damage on AO's right?

I wouldn't think so - you chose to use it as two weapons that round. Just as you keep the -2 hit penalty for the AoOs you should also keep the 1x Str Bonus for damage.

Double weapons have a few nice things going for them:

1> Feat economy. Focus, specialization, and improved crit work on both ends at the same time!

2> Versatility. Go from whacking hordes of little guys for little damage to whacking the one big baddie with the high AC for that little bit more.

The barbarian half-orc with a double axe is one of my favorites for both of these combos, because he has the strength to make #2 work, and has the lack of feats that makes #1 useful.

He already used the weapon for two-weapon fighting, thus those penalties fully apply until his next action. So, even on an AoO, he is still fighting with TWF.
Based on what?

He's making a single attack with a double weapon.

As far as I can see, by the rules this attack will be at his normal attack bonus and the damage will include 1.5 his Str bonus.

When you attack with two weapons, you suffer the two-weapon penalties until your next action.

Yes, he is. But making a single attack with a double weapon certainly does not automatically designate that attack as a two-handed one.

It would be if he could do it.
