UA alternate XP table/static value. Anyone use it?

Remathilis

Legend
In Unearthed Arcana, there is an alternate XP method which assigns each CR a static amount (such as CR 1 = 300 XP no matter what your level) and also increases the amount of XP needed to level (and XP costs for certain spells and magic items).

As someone who hates having to do XP 2-3 times to determine what my n, n-1, and n+1 level PC earned from one encounter, this seems like a godsend. However, the higher XP requirements (and XP costs) make me a little nervous.

Has anyone used this system? What's the general opinion on it. Is it worth converting to?

Yes, we used this system for most of 3.x, although it was something we arrived at naturally so the numbers were different. The XP for a monster was just the XP it was worth to an appropriately leveled character according to the DMG chart. We did this because for the most part it's your level x 300 XP, which is easy to remember. We did not increase the amount of XP needed for levels or magic items, because the simple system had worked just fine for us until UA was published, and there seemed to be no compelling reason to slow advancement.

The only legitimate problem we had was that static XP rewards cause PCs who have fallen behind, due to a death or PC change, to stay behind. To remedy that I just gave them 10% more XP until they were close to the rest of the party, and it worked just fine.

We used it off-and-on. I can't recall why we did not always use the XP table, though. It seems to make perfect sense rather than the awkward default system. I don't think there were any problems in using it.

I don't worry about what experience the book says should come from every encounter. I give what I feel is appropriate at the end of a session and then give the players a chance to nominate other players for bonus experience points.

We're using Pathfinder's xp tables since the Beta came up, and it's a great relief. I no longer have to take out the calculator to find how many xp does each PC get.
