Ugh, I hate monty haulism.

Loincloths! Loincloths, he says... Why back in my day we were lucky to have a codpiece, and we were thankful!
Yeah, players really got spoiled when "Dungeons of the Slave Lords" came out. Crap, you got to START with a loincloth in that haul-fest!

This is why I'm glad I don't play modules written by Monty any more.
"Temple of Economic Evil" was just too full of those annoying three-door encounters.

That quote above is why I've always thought that Iron Heroes was an excellent representation of Conan.

The MGP Conan is a great representation of Conan. Iron Heroes is a good respresentation of medieval supers.

And my Thief promptly took his off and made a crude sling out of it. So, yes, giving PCs loincloths is way overpowering!

I have to add that your DM is generous. You had Classes AND races. In the old games, if you were an elf, that was it. No elf fighter or mage. Just an elf. Race or class, make the hard choice.
Elf? You had a monty haul DM. We didn't have a race or class. Yup it was only attack factor, defense factor, and movement allowance.

Wait, your characters got to MOVE?! Sheesh. In our game, we all played immobile rocks. The only way we could gain experience was if an unsuspecting monster tripped over our characters and died from the falling damage.

You, sir, win the thread.

Wait until 2nd edition comes out in August...

That would be my advice, as well. As for Iron Heroes verus the Conan RPG, to me, the Conan RPG reads a bit like Sword & Sorcery. . . a genre treatment written by somebody who is only somewhat familiar with the genre, instead relying on public perception of what the genre should be, rather than what it actually is. Iron Heroes, by comparison, seems to accurately portray most of the actual tenets present in old Swords & Sorcery pulp fiction.
