Ulgurastaa? Ulgusalsa? Ulgooslashta?

Ok, a critter in Dragon made it into a WOTC hardcover:

The... Ulguraastaa(cough)... or something... the megamaggot Undead spawner! Thing!

My question:
Which book was it in? And what's the CR of it in there?
I might just use it in the climactic scene for my campaign!

The creature is a Ulgurstrasta. It's in Fiend Folio. CR 11. It can be advanced of course but since it's also an intelligent undead, you could, in theory, give levels in any core class or prestige class.

Hm, what would be better? Advance it by a class or just by HD?

My party will be probably by level 15 or so by then... The last game of this campaign will be the Hammer!

Racing to the top of a mountain, chased by hordes of undead and minions of darkness, to reach the top and have the party's cleric slay his goddess, the goddess of Healing, as she descends from above. He'll be using the Obsidian Needle, an evil spear-like artifact designed to pierce heaven, but now used to kill the goddess and use her heart to turn back the Eternal Night.

The release of divine energy will resurrect his dead girlfriend, whose body was delivered to the cleric, after being kept preserved by an order of priests since her death a year ago. Why the priests were told to deliver the body will be a mystery until the goddess' death.

It's going to be a run and gun, continuous assault, every use of "Extra Turning", every edge they can squeeze out they'll have to use...

And then, I get to use Requiem for a God...

So, the Ulgurasta... I'm wondering.... give it some levels of sorcerer? OR boost the HD? Maybe have a couple of them? They'll be crawling up the mountain, dark minions preceding them and skeletal hordes surrounding them...

Man, I have to hurry and finish all those dangling plot threads so I can get to the climax.

While advancing by HD WOULD increase it's BAB, (and also make it go from Gargantuan to Colossal), I think perhaps giving it levels in either wizard or maybe cleric would be better. (Fighter classes won't really give it much of a benefit.)

Advance it by class. Unless they have HD-based special abilities Undead Hit Dice suck, and any class you take will have d12s for hit dice.

Sorcerer wouldn't be bad...but wizard would be just as good. (Int of 18 compared to a Cha of 19). Either really would be good. Another option might be Blackguard or even warrior of Darkness. I really can't think of a great class or Pr-class that screams it...but hey advance it HD and see what happens.

It's a cool monster.

If you give it cleric levels it can bolster the undead to make 'em harder to turn. Give it wizard levels or sorcerer levels and maybe slap the lich template on it? Technically, it isn't eligible, but maybe you could come up with something similar. Or heck, multiclass it! cleric/sorc with a few wands of fireball or whathaveyou...

Use tons of scions of Kyuss with it, too! They're one of the coolest monsters evar in dnd.

Fine. Buy CC Revised. Use Fleshcrawlers instead of normal zombies. Happy?
