Ultima Underworld on GOG

Hey all, Good Old Games worked out a deal for digital distribution with EA, and the first games as part of that deal were just released. Among them are Ultima Underworld 1 and 2, which I imagine more than a few EN Worlder's have played. Also released were Privateer (!) and Dungeon Keeper. Finally, it is known that Alpha Centauri, Crusader: No Remorse, and Magic Carpet are all lined up for later, plus another ~20 that haven't yet been specified. As a huge Origin Systems fan in the 90s (let me put it this way: I own a flight suit used in one of the live-action Wing Commander games) this news is really revving me up.

Also, EA separately re-released Ultima IV for free at Ultima Forever: the Ultima IV download page, although it has been legitimately available at other sites for some time. Strangely, they don't bundle it with DOSBox, which you need to run it.

I felt I needed to share with the community, because these are some truly great games, and it looks like more will be coming.

When GOG announced that they had made /were working on deals to add new publishers and EA was on the list I was desperately hoping for the Ultima and Wing Commander games to finally get included.

Now I left to hope that they all are included and I do mean every single game with Ultima or Wing Commander in the title.

I hope so as well. Way back in the day I bought the Ultima Collection, which I think has I-VIII, but not the Underworld games. And I haven't forgotten WC:Academy or Armada. The latter was one of my earliest online (direct modem connection, really) multiplayer experiences, circa 1994. That said, WC1 was the first game I ever purchased, and I think I've played more Privateer in my life than any game except Baldur's Gate 2.

I haven't used DosBox for a long time. Fun! Thanks for posting this!

You're welcome!

It doesn't have the Worlds of Ultima games either (Savage Empire and Martian Dreams, both games used the U6 engine). and are the some of the ones I'm worried about being left out.

Ultima 6 was the first PC game I ever played.

Good point, I had forgotten about those. (I confess, I haven't played them.)

I couldn't say with certainty what PC game I played first, possibly a stock market game bundled with our XT, but I do know the first game I considered "mine," purchased on my behalf: F-15 Strike Eagle II. That one involved a special trip to a Northgate Computers outlet to get a 14 inch VGA monitor and videocard for the aforementioned XT. I was one happy boy.
