Ultimate Characters!

ElMogwai

First Post
Ive been reading a lot of the supplement books recently and i was wondering what would be the most powerful character build? Using, Race, Class, and Templates what would the be the most powerful character not including dragons or giants.

the character can be made from any 2 races, 1 class and as many templates that fit, and NO homebrews.

for a fighter i got Half Dragon Stone Child Were Bear Monk.
+32 Str
+18 Con
+2 Dex
+4 Int
+2 Wis
Cha
Natural armor +10

Havnt worked on the mage yet.

what are yalls thoughts?

First of all, just because something has great stats doesn't mean it's powerful. It certainly helps, but that monk would get smacked around by almost any full caster.

Note posts such as this which might very well fit your criteria. Yes, the
Feral Tauric Savage Mineral Warrior Stonebone Voidmind Lolth-touched Warbeast Horrid Third-Iron Golem Spirit of the Woods Beast of Xvim Corrupted Draconic Tarterian (Shator) Lost Third-Machine Third-Paragon Dire Bear-Lesser Aasimar
is technically legal, but of course anyone with half a brain cell wouldn't allow it in an actual campaign unless it was something "just to see how it goes."

And then there's Pun-Pun. Basically that build uses a loophole where it can gain nigh-infinite stats and pretty much everthing else, all while starting as a simple kobold or pretty much any other character that can get a Candle of Invocation.

Trust me, you don't want to get into the "ultimate character" thing. Never say something is the most powerful or awesome or [insert amazing description] thing ever, because someone will beat it if Pun-Pun hasn't already done it.

Wow, thats insane! i was only thinking of adding one or two templates. This was just meant to be fun, i wasnt intending on ever using the character.

whats Pun-Pun? what makes the candle of invocation so special?

The details of Pun Pun are found here. Note that, like many "optimised" characters, he depends on a very particular reading of the rules - specifically, the Manipulate Form ability of the Sarruhk creature specifies that the Sarruhk (the only creature in the game to possess this ability) is immune to the ability. Pun-Pun defenders will read that exactly as-is - and since Pun Pun isn't a Sarruhk they argue this allows him and his familiar to repeatedly use that ability to power the build.

However, the text of the Manipulate Form ability is entirely written using "the Sarruhk" as the noun of choice. By my reading, this means that if Pun Pun is not immune to the ability by virtue of not being a Sarruhk, then neither can he actually use it, for exactly the same reason.

Of course, if Pun Pun were the only broken bit of 3.5e, that might actually be worth arguing about. :)

The candle of invocation is a low-cost item that allows a one-shot use of the gate spell. This in turn allows the user to summon outsiders with very powerful spell-like abilities, with wish being the key one. Summon a creature who can grant two wishes, use the first to request a new candle of invocation, and the second for... well, whatever. Then repeat.

A successful DC 22 Fortitude dave negates both the change and the unconciousness. Sarrukh are immune to this effect.
Doesn't seem clear to me what the Sarrukh is immune to, is it the unconciousness and change, or is it that they don't need to make a save?

Sarrukh are immune to there whole ability, they can not use the ability on there own race only on other reptilian races.
Implemented so they don't just give them self every ability in the D&D books.

You're really late to this discussion. :)

You might try googling 'Hulking Hurler' as a start, just to get a feel for what you can do. And then consider that there are dozens if not hundreds of similarly broken concepts existing as excercises in character building out there, and hundreds more which, while not capable of generating damages in the millions, none the less single handedly outclass entire parties at most tables.

And, then there is Pun-Pun, which renders all the other exercises merely that.

The long and short of it is, one of the things that killed 3.5 is the low production quality rendered character building an excercise in self-restraint.

Ah, my friend, you just wanted to talk about something cool, end everyone else opened the door to the twilight zone for you.

Your build suggestion is based off a Monk, which as Jackinthegreen already pointed out, can be bested by a caster. And most other classes.

For a useful suggestion, check Jaronk's Tier Classifications to see why casters typically are stronger than non- casters, and why most classes are better than a Monk.

Teplates are cool. If you're going to use only one or two, and all things are open, Feral template from Savage Species beats most others, because it's horribly overpowered for only a +1 level adjustment.

For some not-so-helpful suggestions, take a look at The Anal Spelunker or The Trouserfang Dwarf. Then realize that it is very important for a player of the game to show reasonable restraint when building a character in order for everyone to enjoy themselves.
