Ultimate Gaming Table - part 2

While I really do like that table a lot - I'm not convinced it's the UltimateTM Gaming Table. I can't admit to outright envy of the table.

On the other had - that is one kick ass gaming room. On that score, I am suitably green.

That rocks. We're having a large extension currently built and space for a pool table is already planned in. I may well look at constructing a removable gaming surface to lay over the top modeled on some of your ideas.

Plexiglass sliding draws so you can dry-erase update your character sheet? Fricking genius.

Question(s): don't you find that vast expanse of dry-erase battle-grid a little unwieldy? Surely you have to reach right across the table to draw on your floorplans...? Or does the photo exaggerate the size?

First thing.. it's WET ERASE, not dry erase.

Don't use Dry erase on plexiglass. it's a nightmare. I want to make sure that difference is made so folks won't mess up their boards.

Reaching across the expanse isn't really an issue if folks simply help out.
As a DM we often use a laser pointer to draw the walls while somone follows along with the marker. That way nobody has to get up =).

Likewise, players use laser pointers to show where they want to move their characters, and whoever is closest helps out.

The other way is to use N,S,E,W.
ie: the walls goes 20' North, then 15' East, ect. and whoever is closest draws the line.

awesome, even though I seen this already on the Wizards.community boards. I especially like the modules lining the walls. I think it would be neat to incorporate a character "graveyard" where players can clip their character sheet of their dead character to the wall.

I am jealous. My carpentry skills can be summed up as measure twice, cut once, and screw it up.

OMG!!!! SPY IN THE BUILDING!!!!!

Stay tuned, that very thing is in progress. =) At the moment, they are just character sheets on the wall. But we have something more artistic in mind...

Cool table... let me be the first to temper it with some constructive criticism: you need some better (ie. more atmospheric) lighting. Really, it isn't hard to beat fluorescent in that area. My female player hates fluorescent lights, that's why I know :)

Flourescent lighting was the most cost effective, even light distribution idea, and also the least heat conductive. With 8 players in a room, despite AC, heat builds up. We live in Houston too. If we were in Montana it would be different I'm sure. And simple enough, flourescent lights generate the least heat... especially for the cost.

It simply was the best performer other than high grade directional lighting. Which we did consider. But it's my wallet that said nope.

Point taken on lighting, but none of our players have problems with flourescent. So it was practical, affordable, and simply the best chocie for our needs.
