what are the coolest things? I know about the Stoner....what else is really cool/powerful like that...?

They converted over the OICW to D20 Modern, which is kinda cool. It also irks me off at the same because I converted it the day after I bought D20 Modern, but I like my version better. :)

To be honest, the only reason this book is almost 30 bucks is because of page count and because its in hard back. IMO, Ultramodern Firearms is bloated with extra text and space-consuming layout designs to make it bigger, thus to charge you more. Don't get me wrong though, it looks damn nice, but as for the actual content, I would much rather have had it been released in softback with a better layout for 20 bucks.

What made it worth purchasing to me was that it saved me a good amount of work. Converting firearms over to D20 Modern is a sinch. It's not difficult at all. At worst, its just time consuming. Buying the book allows me to create more weapon and vehicle modifications, as well as new vehicles and pre-outfitted vehicles. It also gives me more time to work on my campaign setting. So, in the end, its a damn nice book.

My biggest complaint is that the ranges for many of the assault rifles are still nerfed as hell, but that's easily fixed.

So how did you stat your version up then?

In short, better range, higher rate of fire (thus more damage on autofire), more firing modes. The 20mm explosive rounds also effect a bigger area (10 foot radius) but deal less damage (2d6), and the damage type is concussion, not slashing, with a more difficult Reflex save (DC 16).

Some small things like that. I'll try and post the full writeup later.

ACK! A 200 hundred foot Range increment!!! Do you realize the M72 only has a 150 foot increment.

None of the weapons have big range increments, they are all toned down from what you would expect in reality becuase in games combat just doesn't happen at those ranges, or if it does it's not any fun. In the game combat is almost always going to happen at <100ft. There is absolutly no reason for a 200ft increment.

Actually, it should be 120 feet. Thanks for pointing that out. In reality, the OICW is equal to or better than the M16A2, and the M16A2 should have a range increment of 120 feet, not 80 feet.

EDIT: Strangely enough, the 20mm burst round function of the OICW should have a range increment of about 200 feet, not 160. I updated it above.

Are you referring to the M72A3 LAW? Actually, it should only have an effective range of 110 yeards, or about 330 feet. Its absolute maximum effective range is about 200 yeards, or about 650 feet. Now that I think about it, those ranges are for the newer model, the M72A5, not the A3. A maximum range of 1,500 feet is awfully high for the M72A3.

Maybe in your games, I'm sure that's true. However, a 120 foot range increment for a Barrett Light Fifty is just rediculous, when it should have a range increment of at least 360 feet. I can't justify such an unrealisticly short range increment at all.

OK.

Is there a grenade launcher with a clip and other cool features in there, kinda like just the grenade portion of the OICW?

Its actually hard to justify using the OICW over the Stoner, but a nice versatile grenade launcher has is uses at times.
