Re: Weapons in Use

I really liked the book although too bad Charles Ryan was totally off when it came to what weapons Canada uses.

What weapons are standard for Canada? I like to maintain consistency and at least a modicum of realism in my games, so it would be useful to me to know what are actually standard. I'd appreciate any help you could give me on this.

ACK! A 200 hundred foot Range increment!!! Do you realize the M72 only has a 150 foot increment.

None of the weapons have big range increments, they are all toned down from what you would expect in reality becuase in games combat just doesn't happen at those ranges, or if it does it's not any fun. In the game combat is almost always going to happen at <100ft. There is absolutly no reason for a 200ft increment.

This is mainly a problem with how range increments work IMO. I think a range penalty should crop up much sooner than they usually do, but grow much slower.(and usually have a longer max range) I somewhat rationalize it with the point blank shot feat, but oh well.

Then again I'm not sure any sytem really handles ranges how I like them.

No prob...be happy to help:
C7/C7A1 (Diemaco version of the M16A2 with full auto vice 3 rnd burst----A1 removes carry handle and replaces it with Elcan sight)
C8--bascially M4A1 but we have had them since '86
C9-M249
C6-FN Mag 58
C3A1- Parker-Hale M82 sniper rifle
Browning Hi Power
.50 Cal HMG
We use a McMilan .50 cal sniper rifle for extreme long range ops.
We also use the M203.
There is no longer a Special Service Force in the CF. They became 2nd Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group in the mid 90s. Our special ops forces/counter terrorist unit is JTF-2 (joint task force two)
Naval Landing Boarding Paries are equipped with Sig Sauer P225, MP5s and Remington 870 shotguns. MPs and pilots are supposedly getting the Sig P226.
Hope this helps

It's either that or the designers took into account the Far Shot feat that would extend the range increment even further.

Thanks for the heads up. And if these weapons are'nt in the book, what would the stats be?

BTW, can someone please post the stats on the Pancor Jackhammer? I'll be ordering the book next week, probably Monday, after the Xmas rush. Thanks in advance

My question is this (Note: I know exactly zipo about guns)

Is D20 really that realistic a game system that it is able to distinguish between types of rifles. I know GURPS could but it really seems to me that d20 is kind of a quick and dirty combat system that could not tell the difference between a M1 rifle and an Uzi other then that they look different. Am I underestimating D20 here?

In a word, no. If you are buying the book for the gun statistics you are probably throwing your money away. There just isn't enough variation between weapons in d20 Modern to make a product like this necessary, or really very useful. My opinion.

Don't get me wrong, if you know next to nothing about guns and you want a book with stats and nice pictures, this is your book.

If you're willing and able to do a little research and comparison, save your money for something else.
