I'm unable to log in with my level 19 monk, Rasputin. I get a item level restriction error.

Moved to Computers and Software.

Did you by chance recently have continual flame cast on a really powerful item you were holding, or some such? Boosting enchantments on an item can put it it outside the range of allowance.

What happened was that a small number of people did what Henry just described and couldn't log in. They asked for the Item Level Restriction to be removed for a day or two so that they could log in and remove those items. Then ILR was restored, and, of course, a whole load of people had bought items they didn't normally qualify for.

So now we have a no-win situation. I can turn it off again, to allow people to remove those items - but, of course, by the time it is turned back on again, a whole new bunch of people will have the problem.

The mistake was allowing myself to be persuaded to remove the restriction temporarily for those caught by the situation Henry described. I have no intention of spending the rest of my NWN gaming time restarting the module aternatively with the ILR on and off. So, we have two options:

1) Remove ILR permanently.

2) Leave it as it is, in which case there are some unfortunate people who will be unable to use their characters.

Thoughts?

Argh I was afraid something like that would happen!! :(

Obviously Morrus can't keep toggling ILR on and off...
I think that on a PW, ILR does have a place, specially when it's script-run (as opposed to having lots of DMs) and even moreso on a PW like PoA! Money is easy to get and without ILR, a low-level PC would get items no DM would ever think of giving him!

That said, is PoA intended to be played with ILR? I mean even the highest-level characters (Angcuru, Elendiel, etc) still get killed regularly, so maybe the module itself is difficult enough that it will balance itself out in the end?

If we can find some kind of script that checks ILR once the character is in play (instead of before connecting), like it does for our inventory (sending us to encumbria if we have over 130 items), then I say we can still use ILR.

If we can't, I think losing a character that way is too drastic and we should just forget about ILR.
If that happened to me with Kebur, I'm not sure what I would do...

I'd prefer to get rid of ILR, as well. I see no logical reason why a lvl 1 fighter shouldn't be able to physically pick up a +5 Flaming Greatsword and start wreaking havoc. Powerful for his level, yes, but it would be FUN. Which is the whole point of the game.

Can you post on the forums, and in the game intro or something:

"TAKE OFF ALL YOUR ITEMS AT 12:00 GMT ON THIS DAY"

Then, the naked characters can come back on, and see what Items they can use.

I'm against banning characters, however.

I havent logged in today yet... But im about to. I guess I had thought that the ILR would have either been turned back on when the MOD revert took place or would be left off perm. The reason is that given access to the enhanced shopping possibilitys in the new MOD vers. People were likely to buy items that would maybe not normaly be available to them ar their level.

I wouldnt doubt that I have some of these items also... But here again I figured that with the fresh MOD we would be running with the rules we were going to stay with in place.

Off to try my chars...

Peace :)

I vote for nr 2: let the IRL remain and that´s it.
If someone still has a problem, you could turn it off for one last time and let people fix their chars. A post here and some shouting on prime-time when it´s going down will do. After that the ILR remains.
